What world would you like to play in?

Choose a book, a movie, a videogame, or even an anime series that you think would make a good campaign setting.

My choices:
The World from Thief: The Dark Project and Thief: The Metal Age. Lots of steam technology, undead, a very grim and gritty setting, pretty low magic, and some pretty interesting gods and religions.

New Crobuzon from Perdido Street Station. Just the city... I really don't care about anything else. Okay, maybe I do, but New Crobuzon is still damn cool by itself.

The World of Vvardenfell from the Elder Scrolls games. Lots of cool ideas for the standard races plus plenty of potential for politics and roleplaying. Could be a pretty rich and interesting setting.

Herodotus' Histories. Gene Wolfe used it as the setting for his fantasy novels Soldier of hte Mist and Soldier of Arete. Very cool.

The World from Thief: The Dark Project

Seconded! Notwithstanding the fact someone on ENworld (kemrain, I think?) has already done one.

Baldur's Gate II.
Man, wouldn't it be cool if someone made a campaign setting based off that world?

Honor Harrington + the Serrano Legacy

Someone's already doing an HH game/setting, but I think it could benefit from the addition or at least some inspiration formt he Serrano Legacy. They're so 'eerily' similar already...

The Belgariad

I would really love an official published D&D campaign setting for Lodoss War.

Anachronox the RPG would kick all kinds of rear-facing-things.

Firefly. Just had RPG written all over it from day 1.

Witch Hunter Robin. Excellent anime. If you haven't seen it, I don't know what you're doing on this board. You should be watching it. ;) Could probably be done as just a d20 Modern campaign though.

Breath of Fire IV. When I played the game, I couldn't stop thinking about how I would adapt it to D&D. Out of the series, that one has the most detailed world, I find.

Can't think of any more right now, but that might be because I'm exhausted. Might post more ideas later.

Tamriel (The Elder Scrolls). Bwahahaha, I want to trap the souls of the monsters I slay, and use them to power my magical items! It appeal to my ethical sense...

(Vvardenfell is cool, but it's just a big island in the north-eastern part of the world. It's not even the whole province of Morrowind. I want to go back to the Iliac Bay, and to explore the Crystal Tower...)

Other interesting worlds...

Jack Vance's Dying Earth, but also Tschai and Big Planet would be interesting sci-fi/fantasy worlds. (I know there's already a Dying Earth RPG -- and a Lyonesse one, too.)

Being a dragonrider on Pern would be cool, but I don't see much to do in that world, outside of what the heroes do in the novels.

Troy (Lanfeust de Troy, Trolls de Troy) would be a fun RPG world.

Excellent choice. I tried to write something based on it... just couldn't get it work properly.

Although I think (from the same world) - the City of Armada from The Scar would be particularly interesting.

For a sci-fi game - Altered Carbon/Broken Angels - I really like it. The badly understood martian artifacts would be fun.

The world of the old computer game "The Bard's Tale." No special reason. It's really very generic as fantasy settings go. Just way nostalgic. :)

Prydain.

The world of Simon Green's "Hawk and Fisher" and "Blue Moon" novels.

I'll second Firefly.

Al-Qadim. Yes, it's already a D&D setting. I've still never gotten to play in it, though. :(

(Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind working on most of those, either...)

I'd wouldn't mind playing in a Spycraft or D20 Modern campaign set in Tom Clancy's "Ryanverse" (i.e. the world where novels like Hunt for Red October, the Sum of All Fears, Without Remorse, Rainbow Six, Teeth of the Tiger, and more take place).

For sci-fi universe, I'd like to see settings based on Firefly and Starcraft (the computer game by Blizzard software).

Final Fantasy VI, VII, and IX have worlds that would interest me as RPG settings. The Legend of Zelda video games also take place in a world interesting enough to become a D&D setting.

I would mention Warcraft as a cool world to play in, but Sword & Sorcery Studios have already released the Warcraft setting for D&D. :)

I'd also like to see D20 rules for running campaigns set in the Old West or World War II, even though those aren't based on a specific fictional universe.
