What world would you like to play in?

Iron Kingdoms, if they ever release the setting. The world of the Black Company novels. Hyboria. I'm actually in pretty good shape. ;)

Then again, I really only homebrew...

New Crobuzon from Perdido Street Station. Just the city... I really don't care about anything else. Okay, maybe I do, but New Crobuzon is still damn cool by itself.

Urbis takes some inspiration from Perdido Street Station, and indeed lists that book in its "Resources" section... ;)

Don't laugh too loud but topping my list would be:

1) The Pirates of Dark Water (animated series)

2) Stephen King's Gunslinger series of books

3) Dune (any publishers out there listening?)

4) Record of Lodoss War (there was a PDF setting out for the Fuzion system)

5) d20 Warhammer 40k

6) d20 Mechwarrior and Battletech

Hmmm, those ERB Barsoom books would be fun...

So would Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series -- beautiful world with lots of possibilities.

Illiad? Youbetcha! Greek mythology in general is nearly perfect for roleplaying.

And the universe of Dune, but pre-Paul. Have all the characters be members of major Houses and have their "equipment" includes such "items" as regiments of troops, Guild ties, assassins, etc. -- work towards improving your House in the Landsraad and jockeying for position in the Imperial government and household.

Just some thoughts ;)

Firefly. Just had RPG written all over it from day 1.
My friend wants me to run a d20 Future Firefly inspired campaign. Kinda hard when I don't have d20 Future... or when I haven't seen Firefly.

Tamriel (The Elder Scrolls). Bwahahaha, I want to trap the souls of the monsters I slay, and use them to power my magical items! It appeal to my ethical sense...

(Vvardenfell is cool, but it's just a big island in the north-eastern part of the world. It's not even the whole province of Morrowind. I want to go back to the Iliac Bay, and to explore the Crystal Tower...)
Ah damn! I said Vvardenfall but I meant Tamriel. I got the two mixed up.

Others:
A d20 Modern Hellsing style game.
Berserk would be cool.
A Song of Ice and Fire would be awesome as well (yes, I know it's coming out, but the chances of me playing in it is 0 to none).

Lankhmar: I'm working on the campaign setting using the generic classes from UA. However, though I'll probably run it, I'd really like to play in that setting as well.

Earthsea: I have to agree on this one--wonderful potential in this setting.

Zork Series: It has a fair number of D&D-isms in the setting, it's a cherished memory for me, & any sort of humor or anachronisms blend in flawlessly instead of standing out like a purulent wound on a supermodel's face.

Some games that I'd really be interested in playing/seeing, but that I'm a bit ambivalent about:

Ultima Series: Hong's Ultima IV setting info is great--I'd like to really see more (esp. for V & beyond). The big problem with Ultima is that the system (& the setting) got rewritten with each game released for it; there's a basic plotline, but no solid canon to work with for a setting that spans the entire series of games. Pre-Ultima IV, there were demihumans; Ultima IV & beyond, no more demihumans (through they popped up in a game here & there). I still have a lot of fond memories of Ultima, though, & would enjoy playing a pencil & paper game of it.

Record of Lodoss War: Another interesting setting that I think would be great as a retro-OD&D style setting. However, there's at least 2 versions of the setting (the original 13 episode series, & the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight series that rewrote some of the events in the original).

G.I. Joe Series: Seems like a cool setting for d20 Modern, though there's the old comic book "reality," the old cartoon "reality," and a couple of new comic book "realities" as well (the current line that follows the old comic, and the new G.I. Joe/Cobra Reborn series). Has some sci-fi-ish elements in it, but seems more of straightforward combat/covert ops/military style setting.

Freedom Force: A possible candidate for an existing superhero system (like Mutants & Masterminds). Has a great Silver Age feel to it, & though some characters are heavily inspired by existing pop icons of comics, it's still a solid, fun setting.

C.S Friedman's world in Dark Sun Rising. A place where magic responds to your emotions and desires, where your nightmares take form and you must kill them. Loved it.
