What would convince a character to become a vampire ?

Never understood the attraction myself

I mean, who wants to be a photo-intolerant 2-legged leech?
Especially a photo-intolerant 2-legged leech with superhuman abilities and eternal life. You'd have to be crazy to go for it.

deppends strontly on the morals of this vampire chick. She could get some vampires to kill close friends / family of the the character and set it up as if it was the traditionalist party. This would bring him on her side. And with enough fighting against overpowerd vampires, the character my just find it usefull to be an overpowerd vampire himself.

On the other side, I would probably use erotic/ sex. But this is rather hard to play and depends on you and the play to pull it through (hey, I got one charakter to become a succubus another a vampire in this way).

I think she should have a heart-to-heart with him. Take him on an emotional rollercoaster.

If she loves him, then maybe it is killing her inside watching him grow older every day, knowing that someday he will die and leave her alone again. Let her explain this to him while tears are pouring down her face, and see how he reacts when she asks him just to think, to consider, staying with her forever and never leaving her alone to face the battles of life without him. Give him some time to mull it over, emphasize her sad looks whenever something happens to him that only emphasizes his human frailty more. Most of all, be patient. After a few weeks or more of game time, if he hasn't responded, have her leave him in a drawn out break-up and become somewhat morose and withdrawn. Have her then reconsider the pact she made as she grows somewhat bitter about humans, and join the dark side where she can then discover some dark part of her actually enjoys dominating the masses. That is just some excellent roleplaying waiting to happen when they meet again. Will her bitterness rule her forevermore as she spirals downward, or will he somehow bring her back from the shadows? Or will he just stake her and move on as if she meant nothing to him?

Of course, the believability of this depends completely on the personality of your vampire, which we don't know a lot about. Just remember, though, making players cry is fun. I fully endorse it!

Well Drachin I've been trying to use the romantic angle for a some time now but its been overshadowed by events in game. On top of that both the vampire and the PC are female, so things have been a bit different from the start. I'd like to try and add more dimension than just a romantic angle to this though since I know I'm not nearly capable enough of a DM to pull off something like you suggested.

I never thought I'd say this, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer has an interesting take on it. For one, people have to consent to become vampires, so it avoids the exponentially growing vampire population problem. Also, different characters have various motivations to become vampires, although it is presented to them as "a way to walk in worlds you have only dreamed of" instead of vampirism.

Vampirism is a way to fulfill other desires. I think Spike says that it is everyone's dream to "die young and stay pretty," but since I saw a full show for the first time today, I'm not sure.

I would turn the tables on the situation and introduce lore mentioning the possibility of turning a vampire back into a living breathing being.

The biggest point of vampirism is IMMORTALITY. YOU CANNOT DIE.
And, depending on the mythos, you cannot starve either--you just get REALLY hungry.

If one was careful and cautious, one could live well as a vampire, for a long time.

To do this they've made a spiritually binding Covenant to live with humans in as close to harmony as they can (think using blood banks instead of hunting humans for sustence, etc.).

Remember: just because you have to have human blood, doesn't mean you have to feed on innocents.
You could feed on criminals. Or lawyers, but they barely count as human.
I had a friend who had a character who hunted and killed child molesters. Thought that was a good choice myself.

A vampire could also feed solely on the voluntary. That's a big thing in Vampire: the Masquerade: often, powerful vampires will attract mortals who are seduced by the allure of the vampire, and willing to provide sustenance in exchange for the prestige of being in the vampire's "court." This could easily adapt to the D&D vampires described here.
