Purely hypothetical as he no longer has any say in what happens to the game he created...What would Gary do to update to 4E?

Would he bring back old elements or theoretically would he take it in an entirely new direction?

He would republish AD&D 1st edition. Maybe clean it up a bit. That's my guess.

It would be written in High Gygaxian, contain frequent digressions, and balance would be a secondary concern. PC's lives would be much harder, and probably dirtier as well. I'd probably prefer the overall flavor much more, but the mechanics would be somewhat sketchy in places.

Judging from his response on his Q&A thread, if he was doing AD&D now it would look something like Castles & Crusades. In fact, since he's writing for the Castles & Crusades system now, I assume it would look a lot like C&C.
