What would you like to see in the next volume of the Dragon Compendium?

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
In case you haven't seen it already, the Table of Contents for Volume 1 is posted at Paizo now.

The format looks a lot different than I expected. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was under the impression that it would simply be a compilation of articles. To tell you the truth, for the "crunchy bits," the format they chose instead would seem to work better.

Included now is one section each for PC Races, standard Classes, Prestige Classes, Feats, Equipment/Magic Items, "Classics" (i.e., alternate rules), Monsters, and Appendices which would seem to reproduce whole articles that are more "fluff" than "crunch."

Here and now would be a good place to request items to be included in the next volume(s) of this series. Pick out monsters, magic items, classes, or whole articles from issue #1 to the current issue of Dragon that you personally like and think could be used just fine in today's 3.5 version of the game (without sacrificing too much of the original integrity), and it doesn't overlap or conflict with existing material, and most importantly tell us why you think each of those items should be included. If you give the editors a reason to use something, it will be all that much more likely that they may agree with you.

please note what issue your picks can be found in, to make them easier to find. your selections should probably be limited to anything that has not yet appeared in any 3E source besides Dragon magazine itself. :)

Go for it! :)

I'll start out, just because I can. :)

I want to recommend the Diurge, submitted by Scott Bennie, from issue #141 (The Dragon's Bestiary: Nonhuman creatures - With Human Form).

I think that this particular race has a ton of potential, but has only appeared once. As a marauding race from the Negative Energy plane, they are unique and very dangerous foes. I was going to submit a query to do my own conversion for a new article, but seeing them in Dragon Compendium volume 2 would make me just as happy. :)

Crunch crunch crunchity crunch. I want to see the article on pain and wounds redone. I want more weapons. I want more spells and feats. Monsters I'm kinda "meh" on (no offense, Boz! I have plenty of critters to choose from). And Hellstones. My college DM ran a whole sub-story in our campaign based around collecting these things.

More monsters! (No offense, DungeonmasterCal, but one can never have enough monsters. ;) )

But seriously, beyond the Nine Hells, I'd like to see...

"Pox of the Planes", Ed Bonny, An2
"Bazaar of the Bizarre: Armor of the Abyssal Lords", Paul Fraser, 270
"Demons, Devils and Spirits", Tom Moldvay, 42
"Angels", William Fawcett, 35

Why? Because I'm a) a monster junkie, b) a planar junkie, c) an extraplanar monster junkie. ;)

"Mage Vs. Machine", Bruce R. Cordell, 258
"Revenge of the Sheens", Bruce R. Cordell, 270

Why? Because these were just plain cool.

"Ecology of the Aboleth, The", Brandon Grist, 131

Why? I think this was one of the best ecology articles, and I dig the variants (which weren't in Lords of Madness).

Monsters:
Avari, "Creature Catalog III", Scott Bennie, 101
Great Wyrm, "Creature Catalog II", Roger E. Moore, 94
Diurge, "The Dragon's Bestiary", Bennie & Sloane, 141
Jabberwock, "Beware the Jabberwock" , Mark Nulver, 54
Rotripper, "Children of Tharizdun, The", James Jacobs, An5
Kurge, "Children of Tharizdun, The", James Jacobs, An5
Utukku, "Creature Catalog", Roger Moore, 89
Linnorm, Flame, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 2", Jean Rabe, 183
Linnorm, Forest, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 1", Jean Rabe, 182
Linnorm, Frost, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 1", Jean Rabe, 182
Linnorm, Land, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 1", Jean Rabe, 182
Linnorm, Midgard, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 2", Jean Rabe, 183
Linnorm, Rain, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 2", Jean Rabe, 183
Linnorm, Sea, "The Vikings' Dragons Part 1", Jean Rabe, 182

Why? I like all these critters, that's why! :)

see, there's a good start. ;) people can request what they want, but for dungeonmastercal's sake it would help to be more specific. :)

I'm at work w/out access to the cd-rom Dragon archives, otherwise I'd have posted issues and pages and longitudes and latitudes and....

Anyway...I'm at work. :)

Wish List

This is my first post to these forums. I plan to buy the new book, but thought it would be more articles and fewer monsters. I'd like to see more things that can be added to an existing campaign. I enjoy the prehistoric animals and articles on how to introduce real world creatures (e.g. venomous frogs, specialized dogs) into campaigns. Probably not the way to go about selling a book.

"The Magic of Dragon Teeth" by Gregg Chamberlain-- Dragon #98.

"The End of the World" by Eileen Lucas-- Dragon #138

How to introduce a Black Death level epidemic into a campaign.
One of the most well-researched articles I've ever read in Dragon.

Also, the Familiar Enhancer spells that were in Dragon sometime
in the 170s or 180s. I'm sorry. I cannot find the ref right now.

"Get a Life, Henchman!" by Christopher Perkins-- Dragon #246

"Unique Unicorns" by Michael John Wybo II-- Dragon #190

Maybe two or three of these. I thought the sea unicorn and faerie unicorn
were good particularly. P.S. Beagle anyone?

Any of Tom Moldvay's Undead we haven't seen yet would make me happy:

"Hearts of Darkness"-- Dragon #126
"Ungrateful Dead"-- Dragon #138
"Out from the Shadows"-- Dragon #162
"Too Evil to Die"-- Dragon #210

Thank you.

Would the unique dragons by current publisher Keith Strohm qualify? I'm referring to his Dragon #260 article "Spawn of Tiamat, Children of Bahamut" which features:

Medrinia the good aquatic dragon (I want her to become a lesser deity consort to Bahamut, with Tiamat and Sardior getting their own aquatic dragon consorts as well - but I digress. For rather self-serving reasons :heh: because if Paizo does accept my aquatic dragons proposal, they are going to need their own deities)
Vanathor the Golden Harpist
Xathanon the Positive Energy Plane dragon
An-Ur the Wandering Death
Dhrakoth the Corruptor
Mordukhavar the Reaver
