What would you pay for a custom dog coat?

How much more would you pay for a custom fitted dog coat?

  • Less - its homemade and probably lower quality.

  • The same as standard.

I thought you were asking how much I'd pay for a nice coat custom-tailored from a dog.

Haha, glad I'm not the only one.

I think coats on animals looks weird. I don't know if I'd get one for a dog. How much do they go for normally, without the customization?

I don't have a dog, and I'm not sure how much dog coats cost; if my dog needed a coat and I couldn't find one that fit, I'd probably pay as much as I needed to in order to get a fitted one.

However, working for a humane society, I see some pretty wacky products out there. Are you considering making these and selling them? If so, have you looked into dog boutiques? A doggie fashion boutique had a booth at our Doggie Carnival fundraiser this year, and that's in a relatively small town like Asheville. In larger cities, I'm sure there's quite a market for such items.

its an idea I've been kicking around for a while. When I worked at a pet supply store I'd try to help people find a coat that fit their boston terrier or bassett hound, and it was always a hassel. but a store can only keep so much money tied up in inventory so mass producing irregular sizes isn't all that reasonable.

Assuming you had a dog, and assuming you were already inclined to buy a coat for your dog, of either the "horse blanket" or "back velcroed" style, how much extra would you pay for a coat that was custom fitted to your dog, in a choice of say 5-7 colors?
I have knitted dog coats for designers and got paid $20 to $35 for knitting fairly complex cabled patterns. It worked out to about $5 an hour. This was in addition to the cost of the yarn. Some of these were done in cashmere and sold for over $150 in the fancy boutiques. Do not devalue your work. Make sure you are making a fair hourly wage.

I thought the thread was for dogs with geneticly modified coats. I'd Love a Saint Bernard with an all black coat, bio-luminecent red eyes and a little less slobber. A plain Albino Saint would be cool too.

BTW "custom fitted" anything should be at least $10 to $20. Giving discounts is cool, butt let those who can pay the extra, pay the extra.

Heh. When I read the thread title, I thought you were asking, "What would you pay for a coat made from the fur of a dog?"

My answer: I'd pay $1,000.00 just to see the *reaction* of dog-lovers to such a coat. Heh.

You migh pay that in the fine alone If you are a US resident. There are wasteul laws that forbid the use of cats and dogs, even euthanized strays & ferals, in clothing.
