Cool, I appreciate the input.

I knew there would be some stuff that I could think of or explicate in the poll (I already got called on how long it took to write up the options that already were there :) ) Sounds like a distinct desire for backstory-type stuff, like:

- Churches/ sects/ cults
- Creation myths
- Afterlife expectations
- Theology & hierarchy

Btw, I've seen all the books I reference above but I've only got Faiths & Pantheons here. I was guessing that avatars were an addition to that book from DDG, so that's how identified the top two options. Guess they're both in both.

Dc,

We aim to please. ;) Certainly I think as a DM and a player, the more I know about a church or a religion, the more I will either want to play in it or not.

You missed out on one thing I'd prefer to see - a thoughtful and detailed workup not of the deities and powers, but on the priesthoods, their structures, politics and so on. Give me a good look into polytheism and the impact it has on the culture, and so on.

In other words, don't give me a book about deities. Give me a book on religions. :)

Absolutely! Forget the deity stats, avatars, aspects, etc. What we need is a good book on religions, beliefs, tenants, holy days, internal doctrinal divisions, myths, rivalries, heretical sects, cults, etc.

Hear! Hear!

Religions. Religious institutions. These things shape society, many characters, and lots of adventures. Stats for gods not so much.

Actually, the forthcoming Lore of the Gods from Bastion has a lot of what everyone listed as important. So there just might be a book out there that meets your needs to one degree or another.
