What's a good ECL race for a fighter/sorceror?

New campaign starting, and I'd like to play either a an eldritch knight or maybe just a cleric, something with a good mixture of combat abilities and spellcasting. Everyone else in the party is playing an ecl race, so I might as well join the club. Are there any good ECLs for a caster? Something without racial hit die, as I can't afford to lose too many caster levels.

Thanks.

No. There is no good ECL race for a fighter/sorceror. For a cleric, any race is good. No ECL races are best but Aasmar is pretty good. For the fighter/sorceror, IMO, Human is the best race out there. You don't want to lose even one caster level to ECL because you're going to feel every single lost caster level (You'll lose at least two--probably more) and every single lost point of BAB (You'll lose at least two of those too).

Notable builds:
Ftr 1/Sor 6/Eldritch Knight 10/Spellsword 3 BAB +17, clvl 17
Ftr 2/Sor 4/Spellsword 10/Eldritch Knight 4 BAB +18, clvl 12
Pal 2/Sor 4/Spellsword 4/Eldritch Knight 10 BAB +18, clvl 15
Pal 2/Sor 6/Eldritch Knight 10/Havoc Mage 2 BAB +16, clvl 16

Well, with the new militia feat, I could play an eldritch knight without taking the fighter level, or with the practiced spellcaster feat, I could take, say, 4 levels of fighter, and though I'd lose high level spells, my caster level wouldn't slip any. So, say, fighter 4/sorceror6/EK10. BAB 17, 7th level spells at a caster level of 19. Requires practiced Spellcaster feat.

Or an Orog sorceror 10/EK10: BAB 15, Caster level 19, requires Militia feat, and buying off ecl per UA. I like the Orog, seems a cool race, but not worth the +2 ECL in my opinion. Orog has +6 strength, +2 charisma. Great for an EK.

Another idea was a Githerzai monk1/sorceror6/EK10/Sacred Excorcist4. I really like this one, the gith gets enough goodies to be worth the ECL, but I'm not fond of going with weapon finesse, and the +6 dex just screams for it. The +4 inertial armor combined with the insane dex, and wisdom bonus to ac would make a killer EK.

A friend suggested a half-ogre cleric, but I'm not interested in playing a large sized character. I know reach is a great benefit, but David vs Goliath is heroic, Goliath stomping David's puny ass isn't. ;)

Buying off ecl helps, but I'll still lag behind the other guys.

Anyways, these are the ideas I have, thanks for your advice Elder Basilisk.

Any other thoughts?

Anyone else?

Thanks.

Half-Ogre cleric.. no no no.

Half-Ogre (OA) Shaman with the Community and Divination domains. Then give him one of those staffs with the jangly bits on the top, and make him prefer to look for solutions to problems that arn't jsut violence.

*nod*

Anyway, for the original question - sorc has the slower spell progression, plus you're already losing levels from getting into EK, and the first level of EK. I'd avoid as much ECL as I could. You don't want to hamstring yourself too much, after all.

If you want to be an agile sorcerer/fighter, try the Fey Touched (from the fiend folio). ECL +1 (but you mentioned ECL buyoff, so you can buy it off later). +2Dex/+2Cha/-2Con and...total immunity to mind affecting spells!!!! "Feeblemind? I laugh at Feeblemind!"
Ftr1/Sorc6/Spellsword1(allows you to wear a Mithral Shirt with no spell failure)/EK10/??
Or Drow, the same ability mods, plus two points of Int for skills, and SR.
Of course if Favored class is an issue, you're screwed with anything but a human or half elf.

Check out the spellsinger class in the KPG, it's a sorcerer variant with faster spellcasting progression (and you can wear armour).

Races: I wouldn't take ECL +1 races as well. That EK level already hurts enough.

No ECL race are good to play a Fig/Sor
the weak point of this PC are the hit points I played a human Pal4/sor4/SpellSword5/EK7 was a great first line fighter but you only have 13lvls of spellcaster
Instead of fighter I like a paladin to gain access divine feats divine might, divine shield and divine vigor.
The divine grace are good You must have Arcane strike feat.
Choice a weapon style two-handed or weapon and shield
with Spellsword you can wear armor combine with Mithril, twilight ability from BofED

How bout the Fey'Ri , Demon Elves. They are a +2 or +3 race and it does hurt lossing those levels but Sorc is their fav class and they do have some nice abilities.
