JRRNeiklot; The intent was to bring a smile, and a little sardonic poke at the implications of "DM-Rocco"'s comments. I did not intend to imply you are a newb.

I am uncomfortable with the term newb ,and find the idea of hazing them repulsive. IcyCool, please reinterpret my post in this context.

Thanks coredump! I thought everyone missed it.

I think we should have some sort of donation drive for DM-Rocco........

Anyone who has magic users with Gate/Teleport etc. can you please memorize them tomorrow and the rest of us can deposit items for collection at coordinates XXX!!! ;)

No problem, I figured you were just generalizing. :D

Buy a bag of Tree Tokens (and make them acorn shaped instead of feather shaped, please) and try to find a new use for them every game. They're probably the most underpriced item in the book.

As for low magic, yeah, it sounds like your group is. By the DMG. Which is really how people on the Rules forum should know to look at it. Feel-wise, you're less low magic than some. Being able to shop for magic really helps, because 1/2 recommended wealth by level of exactly what you want is way more powerful than twice recommended wealth by level of stuff that's only faintly useful.

If you can do custom items, I highly suggest some form of Protection From Evil/Chaos/Law/Monkeys. It protects from mind control, and keeps summoned creatures from touching you first.

I like items that summon unkillable minions. The bronze griffon figurine of wondrous power and rod of the python are my favorites, both clocking in at around 10k in cost. The python especially, it is a very potent monster and not much can beat the high grapple check until higher levels. Most of my dedicated spellcasters get one, and it never disappoints.

I'm playing in a low magic game, and we're finally going to have a chance to buy some things. I have about 10,000 gold, what's a good item for a ranger/nentyar hunter?

I should add, almost any D20 fantasy source will do, as long as I can provide the dm with stats.

Also, the cool factor means more to me than the power factor.

I like Quaals's Feather tokens. I mean flip a coin and voila... some cool magical effect.
