What's a good magic item for 10 grand or less?

Seriously, lighten up. He's already said that what he meant by low magic was that as a whole his party is significantly under the wealth by level guidelines. How about just accepting that low magic means different things to different people and not take it so seriously?

Definately, who cares if he calls it low magic, high magic, or the magic land of bambawa. We know that he has some equipment and wants something interesting for a low cost.

Personally, I like the horn of fog for general use and the horn of blasting for not so general use ;) The first is 2k and the second is 20k (I dislike the price increase in 3.5 for the horn of blastnig ;/ )

I might've misses it, are you allowed to try to make your own items or not? General pricing guides with the dm having the final ruling about what it should cost.

Also, having everyones armors 'linked' is a good plan (3.5 psionics handbook). 6k each and you can talk with everyone else within 10 miles by thought alone. Great in combat, great out of combat. Instant communication is incredibly powerful!

maybe get your weapon enchanted with parrying? +1 insight to ac and saving throws (vs spells and powers only) for 8k isnt too bad.

Gloves of object reading can really help out in certain situations. Tells you a lot of information about the items previous owner.

Hope this helps a little ;)

As to being in the wrong forum, this should go in the general forum, it has nothing to do with rules. You are asking for a discussion of what items you should take, not how they work.

I love reading an commenting on these threads, I like to give good solid advice and help others out, but in your case, you can't even be honest with yourself or us. I'm not the only one who feels like this, just the only one to be vocal about it.

I am friends with lots of people who are paying members of ENWorld and they all agree that you should not have wrote low magic. Sure, if you were playing in a higher magic game and used to nothing but that, then you are in a lower magic game, but comparing a man who eats a loaf of bread, even if all you have to eat is an old boot is a poor comparison to one magic item for 7 levels of play and more than your fair share for 10th level.
Why does it matter if you are low magic when we give our answers?

Because if you are in a low magic game you have certain things that are far more important in the everyday game mechanics. If you are in a low magic game, a Ring of Sustenance is a god send since you basically can pull guard duty all night long and never have to worry about food, and after having discussed this thread with those in the game that I play in, 75% of use would jump at this item in a low magic game over a +1 Mithril Shirt, or Rhino Hide, or Lion's Shield or a chain shirt with moderate fortification (which we play G&G, so we have low hit points, what does that say to how much we would value a Ring of Sustenance over other items)

Now, if you were honest when the thread first started and said that, aside from one item (which should count towards your gear) you are about 75% removed from a normal D&D game in terms of wealth, then things like a Ring of Sustenance, while still good, if not as valuable and you could afford things that offer better protections.

You really need to put things in perspective so others came better help you.

Now, even though the last to replies where harsh, this one was meant to be more helpful than insulting. However, given that you just called me a jackass, you still have bitter feelings towards me, which is fine, no skin off my back, I can handle your immaturity , but I won't check back here for a reply from you, I'll go to other threads where I can be of more help to those who are asking for it.

So, I'm stupid, and a liar, too, now? How nice of you.

One character being over the gp value does not make the others so. If it will make you happy, I will throw the damn sword away.

Don't bother replying, you just made my ignore list. I've been a member here since Eric first opened his boards and you have the honor of being the first.

Hoo boy. Deep breaths, please, and cease the insults. There's no point in getting ben out of shape, especially to the point that you feel the need to be rude to another member. Calling someone stupid or whiny is absolutely inappropriate, and we'd appreciate it if you treat one another with respect. If you can't do that for whatever reason, then don't post on the thread.

If this is somehow a problem, please feel free to email me.

As for me, it caught me a bit because your version didn't match my version (of low magic), but since (afaik) there is not "one true version" of low-magic....all is cool.

(I think what caught me more was not the $$ of magic, but the availability. In *my* mind, having 5K of magic that you buy at the 'magic shoppe' is not as "low magic" as having 8K of magic that had to be found/quested/whatever.)

As for cheap magic, I *really* miss the 2E Rope of Entanglement. :)

Yeah, as I said, I probably mis-spoke. Like I said, compared to a Midnight game, or a Conan game, or just a low magic D&D game, we're not low magic. The term is relative. Also, there is a difference between LOW magic and RARE magic, as you suggest. Compared to the standard treasure values, our PARTY, though not my character is well beyond the suggested levels. And the dm does not give us a break on the critters we face, either.

At any rate, I thank everyone for their suggestions.

Hold on. Since when does being a Community Supporter make one's opinion any more valid?
