What's a toon?

Yeah, it's a slang term from MMOs. Everything gets abbreviated in online games, so as to save keystrokes. It kind of makes sense in that context, and WoW's cartoony feeling makes it a bit stronger. That said, I much prefer 'character', and would probably laugh at someone if they called a D&D character a toon, especially outside the internet. :)

lol i remember being asked to roll a toon with someone and i thought it meant that they wanted me to pick a cartoon character to pretend to be.

ahh the good old days.

It's not a term I use, but I learned what it meant recently when a player used it in an email. And it doesn't bother me in the least. I'm an Indian who was, today, teaching a play written in Greek and translated into English by a Frenchman to Americans. I learned a long time ago that language is simultaneously fascinating, arbitrary and amusing.

Ugh! It sounds like a bathroom euphemism: "Dude, I'm gonna be in the bathroom for a few minutes - we just had lunch at Taco Bell, and I gotta roll a serious toon out!"
