What's happened to your scrapped projects?

In a box...in my basement...in a closet we never use...stored in a box the says 'Useless Papers.' I've moved it probably 6 times in the last 15 years: same box same papers+extra.

The last time we moved, my brother-in-law carried the--now quite heavy--box...stopped...and looked at me and said, "You are possibly the most honest person I have ever met...the box is actually labelled 'useless papers.'" then he shook his head and threw the box into our closest.

What scrapped projects?

I still work on my old ideas!

...Not so much as I did when they were new ideas, but I do try to finish them eventually, except for the ones that turn out to be not so interesting or viable after further work.

Out of the dozen, maybe?, campaign settings I've worked on over time, I've only ever run games in three of them so far, though I'm close to finishing enough on one or two others for them to be playable. And I haven't even had any chances so far to run any of the alternate rulesets or suchlike that I've devised.

It's piled in various folders and boxes, safe from the light of day. Yes, most of it is so old that it's still on paper. Big, yellow legal pad paper. Hundreds of pages of the stuff. I suspect when I die someone will have an impressive bonfire.

I would still have boxes full of old notebooks like many others, but an EX-girlfriend decided for me that I didn't need them anymore, so I don't.

Anything else from the mid 90's onward is in several word documents spread throughout the cyberverse.

I was actually working quite diligently on something new earlier this year [pre 4E announcement] but since it was a 3E setting it has been shelved, for now. I still go in and add new ideas every so often [stream of consciousness for now] with the idea of cleaning it up and finishing it eventually under some rules system TBD.

The unfinished, the not-quite-perfected, the ever?to see the light of day. How you haunt me, crawling at the back of my mind.

I actually have some serious issues on this topic...time to activate coping mechanisms...oh wait, that is what I am doing here.

A lot of stuff from the old days was naturally handwritten (or some typewritten). Some of it got filed, some of it got round-filed. Some of it got converted to digits and mutated, and either sits undisturbed, exists only in modern and relevant incarnations, or got deleted. But even so, the deleted stuff can exist still on backup CD's. On rare occasions I meander through either the hardcopy files or the digital files to see what I've forgotten about or might want to resurrect.

Ugh. I've spent so much time on half finished campaigns or campaigns that stalled after 1 adventure...even though i had planned twelve. They're still sitting around on bookshelves some where, moldering away in notebooks. The creative expression part was fun, i just hate that they never were shared with others.
