It goes for $49.95
Fairly pricey. Amazon has it for $33.97.

And Walmart.com has it for $31.25...still a lot of $$, but it is a "specialty" book, aimed toward collectors and such who may be willing to pay that type of price.

I recognize about three names on that list. Does that make me hopelessly out of touch, or is that just not an impressive list of "celebrities".
Not an impressive list of 'slebs'. I only recognise two apart from Vin Diesel: Wil Wheaton and David X Cohen. Considering that some very famous people play/have played/probably play D&D, the list is disappointing.

Even though I don't know who most of the 'celebrities' are, I suspect that few if any are from outside N. America. And even though I haven't seen the book yet, I doubt that there's much mention of D&D outside the New World (please correct me if I'm wrong). I realise that D&D is an American game and that most players hail from that continent, but it would have been fitting and interesting to have covered D&D outside of its country of origin as well.

I suspect the answer is: Yes.
Most of the 'celebs' mentioned are folks who are involved in Behind the Scenes work. I didn't recognize that many names, but the properties that these folks were involved in are all pretty familiar.

Wonder if Bill Gates played...

hmm...

if he did (or does!) it would make good publicity:

"The richest man in the world plays D&D! So play D&D and you'll be rich!"

:)

SM Stirling
Michael Stackpole- come on- he deserves it!

The list in the book is less than stellar!

Laurel Hamilton is the author of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Excellent series of books, though the last few have been rather heavy on the sex.

She has also written a straight up fantasy novel, NIGHTSEER, which was excellent. I'd like to see more about that world. I'd suspected that she was a gamer, based on that novel...many of the concepts seemed very gamist.

Anyone who didn't recognize the name Laurell K. Hamilton seriously needs to consider broadening their reading list IMO. She's the first author to write a series which has held my attention through a dozen books. Unlike other long series, her characters have continued to evolve without falling into boring plot formulae (Xanth, anyone?). I will admit that the most recent work in this series, "Incubus Dreams" shows a troubling sacrifice of plot to sex (other recent books had had more sex without a lose of compelling plot); I'm hoping that is a one-time thing. Overall, the series is one of my all-time favorites.

She also has another series currently running which involves the Sidhe in a pseudo-modern setting; I'm planning on pilfering lots of the concepts she uses there for my homebrew campaign if my players ever journey to the Fey Realm.
