It's amazing how dedicated Kenzer is to supporting this 'niche' game.

... get over yourself. It is the best game to some of us, like 3e is to you. [/B]

Kenzer rules.

I am over myself, ;) and thanks for making my point for me!

or for those who don't know, you could go to www.dragonsfoot.org

Great site, by the way. 2 out of 6 Mods/Admins agree! :)

Seriously, Dragonsfoot is a very good site to go to for resources and forum chat concerning all older editions of Dungeons and Dragons. Not to take away from our own ENWorld, but it also has a growing section devoted to 3rd edition, as well.

P.S. Do not go to the "Edition wars" forum on Dragonsfoot unless you can handle some very negative things being said about 3rd edition D&D. Bring the heated discussion, leave the flames.

P.P.S. Please read their FAQ's and codes of conduct before posting there, should anyone visit.

Your point being that Hackmaster is a niche game? Somehow its 'less' than 3e? Or are you saying 3e is a niche game as well?

I'm not posting because I'm someone that wants to flame you, I'm posting because I'm tired of seeing false information about
Hackmaster reposted by people who either have never read the game or have 'heard' about it.

If you liked 1e or 2e then Hackmaster is probably for you. If you didn't like how the rules changed so much in 3e, Hackmaster is probably for you. I am so glad there is a company that captures the game spirit that we had when we first played it.

I have the players handbook, its on my to do list for one of these days, however my current group would not be willing to relearn a whole new system and since we all have good chemistry together, and enjoy playing in 3E (Kalamar specifically!!)I see no reason to switch at this time.
And of course I'm not saying its less than 3E. That would be mean spirited and not true. You actually got me the first time with the "best game for some of us". That was my point and I thanked you for understanding. However, (always one of those) I personallydo believe that it is a niche market game, thats not necessarily a bad thing you know. "If you liked 1e or 2e then Hackmaster is probably for you." Niche. Again, not a bad thing. Just like regular TV is becoming less relevant in determining ratings. You have niche channels that appeal to different groups. Comedy, Women, Food lovers etc. But of course thats purely my opinion and I could be way off base but I bet I'm pretty close. I'm sure someone would come along and disprove me but thats fine with me too.

Actually, it's not as bad as you might think. A majority of the posters there are actually a lot more civil than diaglo here.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the appeal of Hackmaster...is that it's fun.

I've played dozens and dozens of different roleplaying games in my life. Some of them are extremely serious in nature...some of them are just fun.

I've had a very enjoyable time playing almost all of them. I have fond memories of almost all of them.

An rpg doesn't have to be serious to stand out in my mind as a great game.

I have just as good of memories of 1st edition d&d as I do of Paranoia. I've had a wonderful time playing Vampire in a very gritty, deadly setting. I've also had a riot (almost literally) playing Tales from the Floating Vagabond, Feng Shui or Toon.

My poing being, a game doesn't have to be serious to be enjoyable. Good roleplaying is good roleplaying. Doesn't matter if you are the angst ridden Paladin or the guy who can pull anything out of his coat, but only if someone asks for it (Wow, too bad we don't have a live tuna...Well, I just happen to have one in my coat pocket!).

Wow, Alan, that was uncharacteristically rude. It's gonna be hard to convince people, especially new posters, that we're serious about not making personal attacks here when someone of your standing in our community does stuff like that.
