What's the Best RPG Bargain You've Ever Gotten?

I picked up the entire Rokugan d20 line (except for Oriental Adventures, which I already owned) for $150. That seemed pretty good.

Nah, I think Diaglo's buying thousands of minis at 2 cents a pound would win it, for me.

Yeah, that and pogre's deal on the Master Maze are both great scoops too. Well obviously apart from those people that got a whole stack of stuff for free for one reason or another. Lucky buggers!

Mage softcover for 4$ from a bargain bin at a hobbyshop - actually playing in a mage campaign and running a well received Mage game at GenCon. - priceless

Close to $2000 of assorted GW, Target, and Grenadier minis and rulebooks, with much L5R 2e material and the odd RPG supplement for $300 from a game shop going out of business. Me and another guy basically bought their entire remaining game stock for peanuts.

I just remembered that back in 1998-ish, I answered a For Sale ad in the Topeka Capital Journal for "magic cards and some books - $75 takes all" -- "some books" turned out to be five milk crates full of AD&D modules (all the modules ever published for AD&D 1e, actually) and rulebooks (all the hardcover AD&D 1e rule books, plus some early 2e stuff), a suitcase full of early Chaosium material (Elfquest box sets, anybody?) and a cardboard box of miscellaneous fantasy supplements from Judge's Guild, FGU, etc.

I can't believe I forgot about this. Apparently the books were the property of some guy's deadbeat son, who stuck dad with five months worth of unpaid bills and then got incarcerated. Most of the modules can still be found at Dean's Used Books on Kansas Avenue in Topeka, I think. I single-handedly created their module stock back then (I didn't use modules at the time, so I sold them all to Dean's with the exception of the Sentinel series and the original Ravenloft module).

Wilderlands of High Fantasy box, AU$25. The box was scratched. Oh noes. Doubt I'll ever use it, but such a sexy product.

Fistful of 1E modules last year, banged up, creased and in mediocre at best condition, but for like $5 a pop, I'll take that. Includes Ravenloft, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, White Plume Mountain and Ghost Tower of Inverness.

Nice buy! If you ever do a current count on your collection you will see how it adds up.....Generally the books are worth half cover price or less.....Although there are occasional exceptions they are usually balanced out with those worth far less, not always but usually.

Sometimes when you do a count is seems strange that you have so much tied up in it......after the first decade anyway.

1st ed. Deities and Demigods, with Cthulhu & Melnibonean entries, for $1 at a garage sale. Might have been $3; it's been so long (8 years ago) that I can't remember exactly.

Oh, here's one. My friend's becoming a buddhist monk, so for $0 I got: A dozen 1st ed books... PHB 1e, MM1, Fiend Folio, Legend Lore, Deities and Demigods, and so on (notablty not the DMG, but I've been told it's just deep in a pile of junk at his parent's house, and when he cleans it out it's mine :) ).

My best deal ever was when Mouseferatu offered to sell me his 1E Deities and Demigods with Cthulhu and Elric for $20. I still can't believe what an incredibly swell guy he is. I'm totally taking him up on that.

I like to think I am a swell guy.

I ain't that swell. ;)

Actually, I was forced to sell that collection in 2001, after which I rebuilt in 2002 and sold again in 2004 (this time the collection was worth about 5k at time of sale). I'm currently on my third real 'collection' of RPG books, though I make an effort to prune this one every few months, selling books that I am unlikely to use in actual play. This collection is, naturally, much, much, smaller.
