What's the most you've ever spent on a single RPG-related item?

A pristine copy of Queen of the Spiders, some years ago at Ebay UK.
40 pounds or so. I consider it the pinnacle of my RPG possessions. (Close behind comes Necromancer Games' City of Brass box, at around 40 Euros.)

Around the same time I won a used copy of Ptolus, for 20 pounds. The whole deal was rather crazy: when I received the book, I found to my complete astonishment that it was hand signed by Monte Cook - a small detail the seller had forgotten to mention in her auction description. :)

Once we move beyond single items to single purchases, then yes, I too am in DDM terrain. 90 Euros for plastic minis, but it was rather 120 figs.

My wife got me the D+D chess set a few years ago (when it was new). I don't know the exact price, but I think it was in the $200 range. That's more than I've ever spent on a book.

Holy crap.

Do you know which meteor or what type of meteor they're made from? Got a picture or description? (I'm into working with minerals, and my inner Dwarf just had a forge accident.)

This website has a picture of a set. These are NOT my dice, but the other set. These came from a different meteor, and mine have only been out of the glass case once since I got them. I can post a pic of mine if you like, but I have to get my copies of "Dirty Jokes and Beer", "Samurai Cat" and "Our Dumb Century" off of them to do so.

I just delivered the most expensive RPG purchase that I ever saw - and I was part of the expense. A combination Christmas and Anniversary gift that two of my players got each other.

At their request I did the fellow up as a red dragon, though I picture it more as a blue.

For myself... I have had the Heresy Dragon on order for more than a year, as they iron out production problems....

It has doubled in price in that time (though I am still getting mine for that original price) and out of 200(!) ordered only 27 have thus far been delivered. It is now going for 200 British Pounds. So, it would have been nearly as expensive, if I were purchasing it now.... But there are still months to go....

But then, I also knew folks who ordered the Thunderhawk from GW, back when it was a metal kit....

I always regretted not plunking down $25 on the Heritage Great Dragon back in the late 1970s.

I first saw it in a diorama pictured in Dragon- a real beauty, painted as a Red, complete with superglue "drool" dripping from its mouth- then in a store: it was made of lead, as all minis back then were, and it's gaping jaw was big enough to hold a 25mm mini. IOW, it was comparable in size to some of the larger dragons WotC was putting out a couple of years ago.

Edit: This may be a picture of that mini, though the guy who took the photo says he saw it as a Green in Dragon. It's hard to see the 2 forward-facing, cow-like horns due to the photo's background.

Excellent choice. Love Robh Ruppel.

So looks like Ruppel still had it for sale as of like a month ago if I'd asked about it, but it was purchased by that other collector very recently. So my wallet will be happy, even if I'm totally bummed I missed out, and probably going to be pinging the new owner every other year or so with a 'want to sell it?' email.

Heh. But at least I know where it is, and it hasn't vanished into the aether like that DiTerlizzi piece. :)

A Wayne Reynolds painting. The original artwork for the cover of the first RPG book I wholly wrote. That set me back four figures, but I don't regret it in the slightest.

Totally off topic, but I feel like I need to apologise to you. It wasn't until reading your sig in this post that I saw that you were a guy. I've seen you posting here and on the Paizo boards for several years now and for some reason I always assumed that you were a girl. :erm::-S:blush::heh:

Sorry!

On topic, I think Ptolus is my single biggest purchase at USD $120 (was probably around AUD $150 at the time). I'm happy with what I paid for it considering the size of it.

The next closest to that would be the Epic Level Handbook. Back in the early to mid 2000's, before I had discovered the wonders of online shopping I dropped either $80 or $90 for the D&D 3.xE Epic Level Handbook. It probably didn't help that the Aussie dollar was only worth about USD$0.50 at the time. Ok book, but definitely not worth $80-$90.

Not a single items, but I have probably spend a couple of thousand on my DDM collection. I think the most expensive item was a Large Red Dragon that cost me USD$50. Funnily enough I got a Huge Red Dragon for less than that and a Gargantuan Blue Dragon for less than the Huge Red!

The DDM's get used every session in my game and I have just about enough minis to be able to use the exact mini I need (or a fairly close representation of it). So at least I feel like I'm getting good value out of them.

Whoo hoo! I was number 52 out of those 222 odd folks that purchased the dragon, so not all that much longer for me to wait. :) They were only expecting to sell about two dozen of the beasts....
