Oldest RPG item I own: White Dwarf #1 (1979 reprint)

Oldest RPG-related item I bought new at time of release: Warlock of Firetop Mountain gamebook (1983?). Signed by Livingstone and Jackson 2002.

Oldest RPG-related item I bought new but long time after release: Official 2d10's with crayon in TSR packet (1980? don't have it to hand). I've never heard about or seen this product elsewhere. I doubt it's worth much, but I'm pretty sure it's v. rare now, especially mint in its packet.

That covers my older stuff, which is in great shape - hardly used/read. And I am not in my 30's or 40's. I am 26. A friend of mine who was in his early 50's gave me his old gaming stuff, despite my telling him it had collectors value.

The oldest I have that I got new was the red Basic D&D set.

The oldest thing I own that I am the original owner on is the Erol Otus cover Basic Rulebook and B2. Lost the box and dice, though I still have the RPGA membershipt form, the introduction sheet, and the Gateway to Adventure catalog. My Dad bought me the boxed set after I had been playing for a couple of months and made up my own rule set so he could play with me at home. Shortly afterward, he bought me the 1st Edition Gamma World boxed set (which is still my favorite RPG ever.)

The oldest thing I own is Collector's edition original D&D white boxed set. I also have all of the supplements (greyhawk, Blackmoor, etc..)

I'm not sure if it's my 1st Ed. Deitites and Demigods (the old, rather lawless one) or my 1st Ed. Gamma World. Both were given to me as present before I even gamed.

The oldest D&D books I have are the really old 1e DMG (the one with the efreeti holding the scantily-clad women on the cover) and the "giant idol" 1e PHB from the same time period. As they're not in front of me, I don't know the exact date.

The first RPG products I had, if you can call these that, are the "Choose Your Own Adventure" type books, and several of the AD&D Adventure Gamebooks (the ones that came with a character sheet/bookmark in the front).

Good stuff, those.

My first rpg product (purchased new) was 1st edition Basic D&D box set, with the cardboard chits instead of dice. The oldest I own is the brown box Original D&D, 2nd printing.

Wow. My exact response, almost to the letter. Only I'm not sure which printing my OD&D set is. Guess that makes me Old School(tm).

BTW: Chits were pretty much the worst idea ever.

My oldest: 2nd printing of GDW's Traveller in _mint_ condition. Found it in the original shrink wrap (mostly, though some had come off) many (10?) years back. The box has been openned twice: once for me to see what I'd just bought; once to check the copyright date (1981) just a few minutes ago. I really ought to stick this puppy on eBay.

My best "old school" story (I've been playing since I was about 10, so that'll help the dates make sense):

Back in about 1993-94, when I was in college, I was part of a team scavenger hunt. I was showering or something when the list arrived, and when I came into the room, my team said, "we've got ideas for most of the items, but one of the really big point items is hopeless. They want us to find a 'complete set of 1st Edition AD&D hardcovers.'"

I said, "No problem, they're in my dorm room" (down the hall).
