What's the strangest house rule you've ever heard of?

I think I misinterpreted... the dm actually told you in advance that anything you brought with you would be transported? OK, thats kinda silly...

My brother played in a game where they made characters for themselves with everthing they had with them on the first session - no advanced warning, and it was at the GM's house so it was just normal carry around stuff... Of course my bro being himself, his normal carry around stuff was pretty impressive. :D

Sorry I wasn't more clear, yes we knew beforehand. Like I said, ridiculous. It was fun for awhile though, I was a two handed Ash with a lot of boomstick ammo. :D

Um, yeah. Sorry, but I don't want a bunch of gamers dragging knives and possibly loaded guns into my house. Especially some of the people I've gamed with.

I own several guns, but have had some bad experiences with other people's seriously improper handling of firearms.

Don't shoot the messenger, :) , it wasn't my idea. And trust me I feel your pain when it comes to people mishandling firearms. It drives me nuts whenever you see someone pick up a firearm the the first thing they do is put their finger on the trigger, and don't check to see if it is loaded. I hate that.

To anyone who cares, DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT!!!!!!!

and

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT IS UNLOADED FOR YOURSELF!!!!

sorry I digress.

Can't stress that enough. I did not take it seriously until I got handed a Walther PPK and - joking about the drill - checked if it was loaded. Darn thing was loaded with a bullet already chambered, and the safety was off as well... good thing I was checking and not fooling around.

I was raised around guns and I throw a rod when someone points a gun at another person (who they don't intend to shoot). I don't care if its a store model with the firing pin removed, you just don't do it...

A couple of friends who were starting a gun club got their picture in the paper posing with their handguns... the photographer posed them and asked for little changes in their posture till he got one where it looked like one guy was idlely aiming his gun at the camera - boy was he mad when the article came out...

Any miniature used in the game needs to be mounted on a square 1" base. (So no Reaper minis unless they're re-mounted...)

I do that anyway -- makes my minis taller!

Size matters.

We had a DM that wanted us each to describe one another's PCs based on class alone. It was weird as everyone looked very stereotypical, and no one liked what was said about their own PCs, of course. We asked him why, and he said 'if you care about this much detail, then it lets me know how much you are into your character, which you shouldn't as you'll most likely end up dead.' Lame.

huh? I had to read that three times, because I couldn't believe he really said that. I'm guessing the campaign didn't last long?

Reminds me of a certain darwin award ..

A cop shoots himself when cleaning a gun and dies. Another cop then later demonstrates the first guys mistake .. and shoots himself dead.

I'm living safer without any guns in my house, even though I've trained with a pistol and an assault rifle.

We were in a play yourself campaign only it was really cool.

When we were "sucked in" on our way to the realm our bodies were transformed, knowledge, and training was given. So that way we had the stats of our characters we rolled up,

I didn't mean to say that we were assigned stats, or came up with our own stats. We all know each other fairly well, and the six main stats were generally agreed upon (except the DM guy who insisted he get his twin 17s in INT & CHA. He's fairly smart in some ways, so I would have given him a 13 or 14 anyhow, but maybe an 8 or 9 in CHA - at best) One cool thing about the fantasy world - we have one guy that in real life has severe arthritis and walks with a cane (he is having hip replacement surgery soon, too) But, the guy was able to get a regenerate or heal spell cast on himself, and he was up and about in the Realms (and a pretty arrogant SOB, in game… )

But, some of the odd house rules in this “Play Yourself” campaign:
1) mages could use two wands in a round
2) no cleric types were allowed. The DM’s feeling is that we have the Judeo-Christian single god concept so ingrained into our society that it would be impossible for anybody from our world to actually believe the Realms gods are real.
3) If your body died, the spirit/soul is stronger in those from our world than those in the Realms. So, rather than having to be raised, your soul would move to the nearest sentient non-Earther until your body got healed.
4) The only way you could actually die was Highlander-esque – if another Earther cut off your head.

Wierdest house rule I ever heard of: All male characters have to roll for genitalia size, all female characters have to roll for bust size. I can only imagine the racial adjustment charts! (*chuckle*)

Anyway, I sincerely hope that since then that particular DM has gotten a life, preferably one that no longer involves RPGs.

There was a DM I met once (he ran 2nd edition D&D) who gave all male characters a +2 to STR and all females a -2 to STR, regardless of race. Oh, and those bonuses were in addition to any racial mods (although the total modified stat could not go above 19 or below 3). I told him that it wasn't realistic, and I would play in his game if he made it realistic - by giving males a -2 to INT, WIS, & CHR, and females a +2 in the same stats, and not limiting the female's score in that stat to 19 since "our advancement in those three scores is unlimited and far beyond a mere male's". Needless to say, he didn't like my attitude.

P.S. I am female, and generally play female characters because a. I enjoy it and b. there are rarely any female PCs in our group, and c. It is occasionally useful to have a female in the party.

Disclaimer: I do not hate men, nor am a feminist male basher. I am just a smartass - I was just trying to piss off this guy in particular. ;)
