What's with the image replies?

This should not be taken as me pooping on other people's fun, but I've seen 3-4 threads in a row where recent replies were only an image with an Impact-font meme. Again, I don't think this is bad or nefarious, but I'm just a bit confused. Is there a new feature that was added that people are testing, or is there something else going on?

I hadn't particularly noticed them here. How many of them were obviously taking phrases from the recent US presidential debate? I've seen hundreds of those this week on non-political forums as people play with all the new material provided by it.

I might put in something myself. I find pictures and memes can tell a lot with little writing. Most are some sort of joke or poking a bit of humor at things. Some might be more a GenX thing where only older people might understand for the most part.
