D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

This video from The Character Sheet is all doomy and gloomy, but that isn't why I am bringing it up. it points out that up until the new FR books, there has not been a D&D book that requires the 2024 rules.

SO, what does a big adventure campaign look like that REQUIRES the 2024 rules. Yes, the old adventures are intended to be playable with the 2024 rules, but WotC has made no claim that new adventures will backwards compatible. So what elements of 2024 can be leveraged here, and what does that adventure promise to be in 2026?

Dragon Delves is right there. It requires the new rules. So the premise of this post is just incorrect, the FR books are not the first books to rely on the 2024 rules.

I totally forgot about that book.

I assume it references the M&M2024 for monsters, etc? I have not seen it.

It is interesting that the video did not mention it, even though it mentioned the new starter and ST sets.

Character Sheet is a channel that caters to rage bait for generating views. Those types of channels don’t care about accuracy, they just try to stir the pot.

how so, what new rules does it require? A few new stat blocks (which also are in the SRD), anything beyond that?
It references the new rules for social interactions, new rules around exploration (frequently calling for Study, Search, and Utilize actions that aren’t defined in the 2014 rules), calls for monsters from the 2024 Monster Manual (some of which aren’t in the SRD), references the new rules for Exploration in the PHB, points you to Hazards in the DMG that aren’t in the 2014 version, etc. etc.

You CAN run it with 2014 rules. But you’d be ignoring or rewriting a lot of stuff.

The new FR books also talk about Bastions, which didn't exist in the 2014 ruleset.

The only things I can think of that would require 5.24 rulebooks is if an adventure went all-in on bastions. Maybe a creature or effect that references the Invisibility condition or references monsters that are unique to the new MM. But for the most part, much of the changes are player-facing. So, I believe that most adventure paths will be usable with the 5.14 rulebooks with little to no issue.
