What's your 3.5e wishlist?

(1) Kill most of the PrCs and replace with feat chains.

(2) Boost the skill points for all the core classes by 2. (This also opens up another possible balance tool to use when building PrCs.)

Fix and clarify those troublesome spells, you know what they are.

Spellcraft and Knowledge(Arcana) are too similar; I could almost argue that Knowledge(Arcana) be removed.

Skill focus should add +3 (or +4) to that specific skill since all these later feats are adding +2 to 2 different (but related) skills.

Remove material components from sorcerers; most campaigns don't bother keeping tabs on M components and it makes no sense how a self-taught, innate, "magic runs through my veins" individual would know that bat guano and sulfur are used for Fireball.

Change the way XP and CR is calculated; I have a party of 6 and its a migraine during the prep work, "what is going to be an adaquate challenge for these guys?" AND its a headache at the end "ok, since the CR didn't really hold true that was too tough/too easy, so what should i decide the CR was... whatever.... everyone gets 1000xp/2000xp."

Throw in more variants. Its nice to have them in the official books so when you describe your gaming differences people are at least familiar with them. - This is one of the main reasons I like 3e more than 2e; we played 2e and each group played an almost a completely different rules set.

Amen to that. EL/CR xp charts are impossible to figure out. Everyone just ends up going "uh... whatever. Everyone gets 1,000 xp."

Much better to just say "Every game session is worth 1/6 the XP you need to get to next level, with a minimum of 500xp. Add Roleplaying and Story rewards as appropriate."

I swear, D&D is the only game where the optional rules are *easier* than the regular rules.

Percentile Strength.
Demihuman level limits.
An XP system that makes it take forever to advance beyond 9th level or so - only to become comparatively faster and faster after that because you always need the same amount of XP, but, being ever more powerful, can tackle stronger and stronger monsters.
Bearded dwarven women.
Lawful evil orcs - even though that alignment makes no sense as compared to typical orcs' attitude.
Puny dragons, the most powerful of which have only about 150-200 hp.

Since the times are a-changing...

CHARACTER CLASSES

1) Bards

- More skill points.

- No material components necessary for spells, for Corellon Larethian's sake! It is not much of a power-up, it is no big change rule-wise, but it would bring much in flavor.

2) Clerics

I only wish they weren't better spellcasters than Wizards and Sorcerors, but since it would be too much of a change, I won't dwell on that.

3) Monks

- More flexibility, as in OA. For instance, they could be allowed to choose among spells of a certain level, at a certain level, and be able to use the chosen spell once per day (per level?) as a spell-like ability. Thus a lot of choice for flavorful "special techniques" without space wasted. (Something like for the Sword Dancer in OA.)

- The possibility to boost their unarmed attack bonus, so they can still be unarmed fighter at the highest levels without switching to Sacred Fist (from Defender of the Faith: this class should be used to revise the core Monk).

4) Sorcerers

No material component necessary for spells, here again. Theirs is an innate power.

Charisma-related skills as class skills.

5) Shaman

OK, OA's shaman won't be included in basic D&D... but I regret it. :p

SKILLS

- Bluff and Intimidate could be bundled together.
- Jump could work against set DCs, rather than relying on the current math-heavy method.
- Skill Focus should give a +3 bonus.

To the former shadow of his former self...

Hey there, PA! Good to see you 'round here. How are you, man?

You're FAST.

I've been busy, as you can guess. *sigh* Between teaching and a PhD to work on, there has been little time for me to game.

It's all practice; I've got to stay ahead of the competition... ;)

Yeah, I've imagined as much. I only hope you're still managing to have fun (and not only stress) anyway. :)

A couple of ideas you guys posted that I hadn't really though of before.

The combat ready monster statistics would be a godsend.

Basically, you have normal red dragon. Then you have, I know your coming and I'll be ready red dragon. Hell, I'd pay twice the price of the first MM for that.

Special skill uses for rangers is a cool idea too. Like chances to spot in pure darkness or something.
