No backup.
I currently have an interest in/play several games. . . Grand Fleets, Victory at Sea, Battlestar Galactica: Colonial Battlefleet, Warhammer 40k, Starmada are the main ones right now. Three or four more are on the back burner to be resurrected at some point. This doesn't even cover computer or 360 games!
If 4E doesn't revive my interest in D&D, I just won't play any RPGs anymore and instead will just play my many other games of interest. I'm done with 3.x.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, I've got 3 options. There's Star Wars Saga Edition, Pathfinder, and maybe, maybe Exalted 2nd Edition. I tried the first run of Exalted, and the lack of any definitive power curve made statting enemies a huge pain, especially since I'm basically DMing it for the first time with no Exalted experience to speak of.

There is no backup. If 4e fails then for the first time in 20 years, I will not be playing D&D anymore.
But, I'm 99.999999999999% positive that cannot happen. I have loved pretty much every tidbit about 4e that has been revealed up to now.

Currently in/running a couple Burning Wheel games... the system has its merits.
Not sure what I'd do for my 'heroic fantasy fix' though.

While I highly doubt 4e will be bad, if it is I still have my nWoD (especially Promethean and Changeling).

Given my current couple of groups' level of disinterest in 4Ed, its likely that I'll be continuing to play 3.X or some variant thereof for some years.
That said, I'll play just about anything, though HERO and M&M are my current #1 & #2 favorite systems. (And given their flexibility, I could run or participate in a game in any genre I please and wouldn't really need much besides.)
Besides those, I've a collection of 60+ RPGs that I can reach for any old time...
