Well, Strength and Wisdom seem most popular, with Charisma a close 3rd. Nobody really seems to like dump-statting Dex, Con, or Int.

I voted Wisdom. My archer-assassin-dude is 10th level now, with a will save of +2.

This depends very heavily on what character I'm playing.

If I'm a fighter, I choose charisma as my dump stat. If I'm a cleric, I choose either dexterity or intelligence as a dump stat, etc.

I chose Charisma in the poll, however. Every single ability score except charisma can provide benefits to a character outside of skill checks and class abilities. For example:

Strength: Affects melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, and how much weight a person can carry.
Dexterity: Affects AC, ranged attack rolls, and reflex saves.
Constitution: Affects amount of hit points as well as fortitude saves.
Intelligence: Affects how much skill points a character recieves.
Wisdom: Affects will saves.
Charisma: Affects nothing that benefits all characters. Only useful for certain skill checks and class abilites.

Dump Stat

I would have to say that most of the time it is CHA. The classes which need CHA are the bard, paladin and sorcerer. I never play these classes because I have no interest in them.

Clerics also benefit from a good charisma score, as it helps them when turning undead. Although Charisma still isn't a real necessary stat for clerics.

As most people have said, it depends on the character concept. Which does not necessarily correlate to class. For example, while I wouldn't play a bard with Cha as a dump stat, it could easily be any of the other five depending on how I visualized the character.

I'm interested to see that in this poll Cha, the famous 'dump stat', is fighting with Str and Wis for top (or is that bottom?) position.

Lately I've stat dumped on Intelligence as I've happily been enjoying dump, charming fighters lately. Only one wizard type (hint: DID NOT stat dump Int on that one! :) ). I spent years being rogue/bard types, I want some action these days. I have my Vampire LARP for non-combat stuff. :D

I was all prepared to come into this thread and explain/defend why I dump strength... then like 25 people beat me to it. Wow.

Charisma, of course, that's what it's there for. :)

I play wizards. What the hell do I need social skills for when I can just charm people if I need something?

I'm surprised Wis is tied with Cha. I never use Wis as a dump, because Will saves are important to me. If I need a second dump stat, I'll go with Str. If I need to carry a lot of stuff, or smash something up, I'll charm an ogre.

Here's my preference:

1. Intelligence. Like I said, I play wizards. Therefore, Int is highest.

2. Constitution. This is always second, regardless of class. It goes before Dex, because no matter how low your AC is, over the course of a campaign, you're going to take hits, and as a wizard, I need all the hps I can get. Actually, I follow this line of thought no matter what class I play.

3. Dexterity. For the AC bonus, plain and simple. More protection for my character is good.

4. Wisdom. If I've got any scores above 11 at this point, I stick the highest one in Wis to boost my Will save. I never put something here to lower it. I hate getting charmed.

5. Strength. Wizards can't fight anyway, so why bother wasting Str on a good score?

6. Charisma. Who needs it? :)

Intelligence is my usual dump stat.

Wisdom is good for will saves, willpower in general, and common sense.

Charisma is for great looks and leadership.

Strength is for heroes.

Constitution is for legends.

Dexterity is for dodging giants.
