Phantasie III - The Wrath of Nikademus is the best, of course! It's a bit outdated, tho. :D

Planescape: Torment would be a close second. ;)

Neverwinter Nights is great and there are tons of campaigns for download (some of them are really good, I heard) and a very good multiplayer mode. I have great hopes for NWN2.

I heard Gothic 1+2 are pretty good, too.

Temple of Elemental Evil is good, but not really great. The 3.5 style combat system is very well done.

I found Morrowind to be boring and repetitive. Dunno, just couldn't stand it for long.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is probably one of the best CRPGs of all times, too, but it hardly qualifies as fantasy. If I had to name a single CRPG today, it would be this, I think.

Fallout 1+2 also belong up there among the best. Ever. Also no fantasy, of course.

I never really got into Arcanum, don't know why, since I really liked Fallout.

System Shock 1+2 should also be named, even though they are not fantasy at all.

Well the title of the thread and the body ask two different questions. I'm going to answer the question in the title. :)

My favorite CRPG was Wasteland. Closely followed by Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout, Fallout 2, Bard's Tale I-III and Ultima IV-VIII.

I haven't played alot of new CRPG's because my computer can't handle them. So I don't have any suggestions. Although I do love Diablo II, but I wouldn't classify that as an RPG. More a action game with RPG elements. Despite the fact it gets repetitive after a while I keep coming back to it. :)

My favorite CRPGs, in particular order or era:

Fallout series
Arcanum
Diablo 2 (for semirandom D&Dness)
Icewind Dale 2

... and definitely the 'oldskool' Goldbox SSI AD&D first-edition games... Pool of Radiance, Azure Bonds, and Silver Blades are my favoritest...!

If you can find the "Realms of Arkania" Trilogy, or any of the games in the series (Blade of Destiny, Star Trail, Shadow over Riva), you will not be disappointed I don't think. The games are about 10 years old I think, but still great. Epic stories, lots of character customization for stats, skills, equipment, etc, and combat takes place on a square grid similar to a battle mat. The graphics are passable even by today's standards, though of course they look a bit dated. I've seen worse in several newer games.

I think Chips Bits may have the trilogy for $5.

Sadly, they don't run well on my latest computer, so I'm actually considering buying a second, older machine to play that, Fantasy General, and Warlords 3.

Does anyone know where a copy of Planescape: Torment can be found? I lost the game a while ago, and would to be able to finish it.

Planescape is available at Walmart in the bargain rack for $10.

Mine have all pretty much been mentioned:

PS:T
KotOR
Fallout 1&2
Wasteland
Gothic (haven't played 2 yet)
Morrowind
Betrayal at Krondor
Bards Tale
Wizardry

I have an older computer, so I don't know if some of the newer games would work well with me.

I absolutely love Baldur's Gate II, but I want to try something a little different.

What CRPG would you recommend, while still in a fantasy type setting?
I just have to mention the Eye of the Beholder trilogy. I still play through it a couple of times every year. Can't really explain it. It just draws me in and I find myself unable to stop playing until I reach the end. :D

Those were fun, yeah. :)

Still remember the giants, who had to crouch through the corridors, because the ceiling was only 10 ft. high! :D
