Adventurer
What is your favorite Prestige Class and why? Have you used a PC before? If you have, was it what you hoped for.

I know some people look to Prestige Classes as something to strive for. But are they what you expected once you got there? Or do they just become another class to multiclass to?

Go the original Bard

My answer is the same as it was when this question was posted on the old boards:

The First Ed. BARD

Why?: Because you had to work damn hard to meet the requirements, but when you got there it was all worth the effort. You were truly in a class of your own.

It was certainly NOT just something you multiclass to because you can.

Down with wimpy, demi-human, I start my adventuring career as a hack, with no effort required on my behalf, bards.

Note: I don't actually have a major problem with the new bard. It's just that they're really only glorified minstrels, not true bards.

My favorite core prestige class is the assassin, followed by the oft-underestimated dwarven defender.

The assassin dabbles in black magic and gets sneak attack... what fun!

One of the Few Prestige classes I really liked was the Holy Liberator... like a Chaotic paladin. Did a character only once and he had a short career so I cant testify for its usefullness.

I just like the idea of a Holy sponsored warrior that isnt Awful Good Alignment...

I've only played one prestige class. It was not something I strived for. I play a bard and had taken the whip as my primary weapon to do something different. Early combat I was still mostly using the trusty crossbow. However, because we were chased across a fast moving river I lost my crossbow and the only weapon I had left was my whip. A few combats later I realized the use of the whip, but knew If I really wanted to take advantage of it I would need the Lasher Prestige class. The LAsgher is everything it claims to be and more. I can make AoO, use it next to my target without provoking an AoO, not do subdual damage, and get a sneak attack with it all at level one!! THe hit points (d10 verse bard d6) has made a huge difference. I've got 4 lasher levels now. I can make an extra attack (basically flurry of blows with the whip), grab objects with it, I got improved Trip, and basically weapon specialization. This with my Bard spells has allowed me to become much more effective in combat. Sure, I've given up Bard levels so my spellcasting is a little low, but I perfer the versitility of having a good weapon with good weapon skills. So, I can use the whip, cast many spells, play music, or use any of my skills. There is very little the Bard Lasher can't deal with.

Haven't yet used a prestige class, but Ghostwalker looks very interesting, just don't know if a concept like that would fit into a party atmosphere.

I also like the Sword Saint PC from Jade and Steel.

I like the Templar PrC, purely on the basis that I'm doing medieval historya s a big part of my degree, and like studying the Knights Templar.

I probably like my home-made PrC's the most, ones like Ascensionist and Cryomancer.

:)

Archmage, Divine Champion, Holy Liberator, Penumbral Lord, the revised Incarnate, and Mindbender. Course Chaos mage is fun, but I consider that a "core" class.

From Hollowfaust....

The animator, mourner, and shade touched are cool necromantic themed prestige classes for mages/clerics, bards, and thieves. Pretty cool stuff. The interesting thing, flavor wise, is that they are not necessarily evil. (Hollowfaust is a really interesting book that describes a city especially easy to drop into any campaign.)

I like the fate-spinner, and dragon disciple from Tome'n'Blood, the royal explorer from Song'n'silence. But my true fav.... and there is only one......

DRUNKEN MASTER!!!!!!

Hey, Nightfall, my wild spellcraft book is coming out in a couple days; hopefully you'll like some of the prestige classes in there. From what I know of you, I'd say you're more of a Pandaemonicist person than a Sculptor of Chaos.

Actually, all the PrCs that my PCs might go into are home-made, whereas NPCs typically only use published ones. I've had a villainous Fighter/Lasher/Duelist. She was fun.

But I like my own PrCs best. http://www.geocities.com/rangerwickett/RPG_Rules.html
