What are the soundtracks you like best? I mean whole albums, not only one theme.
I like nearly anything by John Williams and I think his best work - and my favorite soundtrack ever is:

Jaws

Also...
Star Wars
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Superman
1941
Empire of the Sun
Aliens (James Horner, since reused HEAVILY in other movies)
Pump Up the Volume
The Wall

"The Wall" probably doesn't really qualify because the movie came from the "soundtrack".

My favorites are Braveheart, Gladiator, and The Last Samurai (really just epic, sweeping orchestral music which I like).

I also really liked Elliot Smith's work in Good Will Hunting (the entire soundtrack is great really), Badly Drawn Boy's stuff in About a Boy, and Iron and Wine's work on In Good Company (also a great soundtrack).

Well, Conan is a D&D classic, but other scores, like Akira and the Hunted are pretty good too. I'd kill to find a reasonably priced Excalibur soundtrack.

If you're not already aware, Carl Orff(German composer) wrote 'Carmina Burana-O Fortuna' which I'll wager is probably one of your favorite pieces of music off of the soundtrack. That is available separately, but like the "Ode to Joy", what you are familiar with is likely only a small chunk of the full piece. It also shows up in a LOT of other movies, but it is a great piece of music.
