Out of curiosity, does your group only play D&D?
Pretty much, yes.

More accurate: We play D&D for the fantasy/medieval genre, and Fuzion for the futuristic/sci-fi genre (the only two genres we care to even bother playing). However, we play the fantasy/medieval genre (read: D&D) 9 times out of 10.

By coincidence, my current campaign will be stopping around June because I am (Hopefully) moving away for school. Converting doesn't become a problem.

Since I know I want to pick up 4e, the new threat becomes "Finding a new group who will play it".
Same. Supposing I find a new group at school, I will be converting to 4e, no question about it.

I marked I'll read it and playtest it before deciding.

But it's going to have to be really darn good to get me to switch. Right now, it's "I'll read and playtest it to decide whether it's worth bothering to play even the RPGA Living Forgotten Realms stuff; I'm pretty happy with 3.5 for my home games and I've disliked enough of the previews and design philosophy articles that my optimism takes the form of "it may be a halfway decent game" rather than "it will be an improvement on 3.5""

I'm definitely in the "I'll read and playtest before switching this to the group's preferred system" camp. I've got a dozen systems besides D&D that I find fun to play, so this one will have tp prove itself.

Early on in the process there was an issue raised that was and is an absolute deal-breaker for me. I said way back then that if WotC reversed that decision then I would buy the three core rulebooks, no questions asked. I stick with that - if the issue in question is removed then I will buy the core rulebooks.

May I ask what that one issue is?

As for myself, I am switching. I am going to be the one who buys the corebooks and brings everyone into 4e for my group. The system just screams, "ME!" and there are some aspects of it I think (though once it finally comes who knows) I can use to my benefit to put some WoD/Storyteller system into D&D.

Storyteller is my preferred system but most of my players prefer D&D so, D&D is what we play. Much to my chagrin, but with 4e and me DMing hopefully as said above I can sneak some stuff in :)

I voted "I will read and playtest 4E before deciding to switch or not.", but it's more like "I will read 4e but will only switch to it if it REALLY captures me; otherwise, I'm gonna make a homebrew system, some 3.75e."

Right on, which edition (1st or 2nd)?

I like First and Second and I'm equally happy playing either edition. I like to play by-the-book, quirkiness and all. Right now I'm getting everything ready for a second edition campaign set in the Realms (Dalelands area) about 10 years after the Time of Troubles.

I have nothing against later editions, but I started playing D&D in 1980 and I like to play the game I grew up playing.

cheers

Yeah, I started with 1st Ed, but have played the most 2nd Ed out of all the editions to date.

But looking back, 2nd Ed kept all the crap parts of 1st Ed (rules-wise), but lost the vibe, IMO. The campaign settings of 2nd Ed were marvellous, though.
