A player that spends money on books? I think I've seen everything now. :D

Man, if I could get my DM to buy just ONE book besides the 3 core books and and a few others, I'd be sooo happy. I was SHOCKED last month when he bought the XPH. I mean LITERALLY taken totally by suprise. I buy all the books for the group, and have taken to running occasionally and TRYING to encourage people to use books outside of the core 3. When people make posts complaining about munchkin template/prestige class abusrers, I am always flabbergasted. I've never even SEEN someone play a templated character, and PrC are rare. It frankly makes the game almost boring after a while, and fills you with frustration, seeing options that you can't use.

None of your players buys books? In the groups I've been in so far, at least half of the people have gotten the PHB at the very least.

Depends for D&D two have bought the PHB (tell a lie we got one of them for them as a B'day present) and the other player has also bought the DMG and MM, but he also DM's so it doesn't count.

For other games only the DM ever seems to buy the books until at least the third or fourth year of running the game then maybe, just maybe someone will buy another copy.

Well I marked the 100-250 range but my normal is about 125 per month.
A little more when a new mini case is available and a little less when life surprises you with a bill :D

Lately, I've gone the occasional month or two without buying anything, which knocked the average down to $20-$50/mo. But I really tend to spend $100/mo or so on books; the only question is how they break down among novels, programming books, and gaming books.

My spending is more limited by the products on the market than by my budget.

Hear, hear. I'm spending about $20 to $50 right now, but it's because there's so little that appeals to me than anything else. If they came out with stuff based on Greyhawk 576 CY, I'd be spending money like Imelda Marcos buying shoes.

Mine as well.

I put down $50 - $100, though that's an average. This month was an exception, as I plunked down for Front Mission 4 ($50), Eberron ($40), BFG: Armada ($35), Castebook: Dawn ($15) and Creatures of the Wyle ($20). Normally, though, it's what WotC puts out that month, and a few other things that look interesting (Shadowrun, Exalted, a bit of GURPS*, and the occasional third-party d20).

I could probably support a higher expenditure, except I get somewhat uncomfortable spending much more. I think the most I could justify to myself would be about $200/month, which would be a very unusual circumstance.

* - Dang them and their new edition, though I comfort myself by the knowledge I don't have to buy them right away.

Mine too. I've plenty of money, but there just isn't anything being published that I want to buy.

Not counting paper and toner for my printer, petrol for my car, and munchies for games, I've spent US$117.85 on gaming products, postage, and handling so far this year. Last year I bought a replacement set of dice. The year before that, Delta Green, a second-hand DragonQuest 2nd edtion, and a battlemat. The year before that was a biggie: I bought the D&D 3.0 core books.

Until recently I was spending in the $100 to 250 range, but my wife and I recently built a new house, so I've had to drop down to about $100 a month, possibly to be ranged lower as we see what the budgets are going to look like. :\

I'm happy to see that my approximatly $100 per month budget looks reasonable. I actually dropped the hint to my wife at supper tonight that I was thinking about getting some Giants of Legend packs, and while she didn't seem too thrilled about it, she didn't say no either. The results of this poll might give me more evidence to prove this kind of expenditure isn't out of line.

As expected, it looks like DMs spend more than players. And it also looks to support that ENWorld is bit DM-Heavy, but I think we knew that. I'm especially impressed to see a DM spending >$1000 per month and also to see a player in the $250 range. That's a lot of moolah, and I guess I'm more than a tad jealous! :)
