Whats your shortest lived character?

Once in Rolemaster I had a character critted and instantly killed by an ambush within the first 10 minutes of play, a crossbow bolt through the back of the head IIRC. Never got to make so much as a single roll with that character. Which is kinda funny apart from the several hours needed to create the character.

Shortest lived character was a rogue of mine. i came in the game around level 9. 3 sessions later, the dwarven cleric is killed, doesnt want to be raised. party votes to start new campaign.

I had PC die in the beginning of a session. I spent half an hour rolling up a 12th level cleric (AD&D 2e, Specialty priest.) on core rules. Transfered the character to a piece of notebook paper (print broken), went into other room, began copying to other sheet. I was looking over the "junk list" (magic items no one could use/wanted) as my PC (a friend of another PC for simplicity) met the team. They were going into the ruins of a dead near-gods tomb (aver PC level: 16) when me (not even having done much but introduced myself) went with the group and sprung a trap. Save or die. Dead Cleric.

I wasn't even done with his character sheet, spells or magic items before he was gone.

Role-up Time: 45 Min (uncompleted)
Play time: 2 minutes.

Thats my record.

I had many characters die during character generation when playing Traveller. This was usually preceded by the words, "Just one more term and then I'll muster out."

Once, the DM even used one of the pre-game deaths as a plot hook to get everyone together.

Damn... LoL, I should have made Travellar not count. Sooooo many people will be posting about dead Travellar PCs before they were even created.

I dont know why they decided to do this in the system, makes no sense to me. LoL

I had a player who's character died in character creation. He made a wizard with a low con score. He rolled a one for hps, then after the con modifier was applied he was neagative so he was just dead to begin with.

My first 3e character was a monk, and we were starting in "The Burning Plague" (one of Wizards' free download adventures).

So, we head into the mines, and find a body under a mine cart. Stupid me decides to check it, and sets off the Thunderstone trap.

We decided to keep exploring, even though we knew most of the dungeon was likely aware of us. After coming to a door, I volunteered to open it.

The DM described the room as basically a dining hall. Many kobolds were inside, behind tables, and they had crossbows. Plus, they were all staring at the door.

I decided our only chance was to either slam the door & run, or for me to rush them and hopefully distract them long enough for the others to get into melee. Deciding to live up to the challenge, our hero rushes into the room...

Next thing the DM does is roll lots of dice. He proceeded to tell me I was dead, with many crossbow bolts in my chest. See, apparently those kobolds were behind overturned tables they were using as shields, and had crossbows pointed at the door. So, the instant I twitched, I got a dozen crossbow bolts in me.

My shortest-lived character was Gravel Rockwyrm, a 1st level gnone thief, who died while opening a chest with a poison needle trap. It was ten minutes into the game. He lost his saving throw & the DM showed no mercy. Of course, I lost many characters to that DM through the years.

Some years ago a poor GM ran an 'evil' campain, we where going to be bandits or something dastardly like that. Half the party giggles in delight and goes off and makes up some uber-munchkin killing machines and the rest of us decide to make up some semi-serious ones to keep the munchkins alive and mooch xp.

A lot of games seemed to be like that in the early days...

Anyway, we're all in the village of Homlet about to do something evil, so we decide to camp in a barn and wait until nightfall before doing evil. Some of us cant wait that long and decide to naff off into town for a bit of 'fun'... making excuses about recon and casing the joint. So the rest of us kick back for a bit.

I think two of our munchkins got into a fight at the pub after trying to steal the till, they got ganked in short order, the other munchkin got chased out of the jewlers with the now 'riled up' township after him. So they chased the bastard right back to our barn, where me (the theif), the wizard and cleric are holed up.
Great, surrounded by the good folk of Homlet and only 24 arrows to my name, not to worry our resourcefull munchkin has some Greek Fire (as they do) and decides he will blast our way out.
Cept he borks it.
The good ol "1" comes up on the dice and we do the random grenade table roll, sure as hell it lands in the barn and sets it and the wizard on fire. Who promptly dies because he has 3hps.

Im pretty sure we all died in the fire or where kebabed by peasents with sharp sticks.
TPK in 45minutes.

Had to laugh I suppose. :D

Not me, but in Flashing Blades (Three musketeers type game) we had a player than rolled up an expert marksman with high Dexterity and concentration in Firearms.

The first battle we were in he fumbled with his attack roll, got gun explodes result, roll attack against self. Got a critical to the head on the attack and did maximum damage, so 10 points to the head which gets doubled to 20, instantly killed him.

We have had the Traveller death in character generation and D&D character's dying in their first fight but the above story was the funniest to site and watch. It was like a 20 (fumble for attack) followed by a 20 (critcal for attack on self), followed by a 1 (for location head) all on a D20 then finally a 6 (on a d6 for damage). Each roll the players face got more and more distressed, until by the end he saw the funny side of it too.
