What's Your World's Afterlife (and session help)

Okay, well, here's how it went -- and thanks to everyone who pitched in! Your ideas were very helpful.

Our heroes travel along a strange tunnel lined with sitting people. All of whom regard our heroes with curiousity and comment on the fact that they're alive.

They encounter a couple of ancient evils from Barsoom's past (names withheld pending eventual Story Hour updates -- sorry but those spoilers are too big for me to give away) and a fellow who recognizes the funny runes on their chests. His name is Victor and he was a bodyguard for a historian (Barsoom being the sort of place where historians need bodyguards) who was investigating the faerie people of Shaer, the Tuthean Tarn. He saw writing very similar to those runes over in the mountains of Shaer. He's of course dead now, but being a new PC decided to tag along with our heroes.

Then came the river of blood, filled with grotesque maggots and whatnot. Dead PCs could just walk across, but live ones could not. And when they touched the blood, it burned, it burned. Nearby dead folks mentioned that the river of blood was a recent addition to the Ghostwalk. Which was weird because you sort of figure that the underworld is, you know, eternal. Sort of the point.

But apparently not. Anyways, several rope tricks and few Climb checks later, and our heroes are safely across, at which point more ancient evils make their acquiantances and then they encounter a charming young lady apparently carved from solid ruby, who introduces herself as the Ruby Phoenix and begins saying all sorts of weird stuff.

She mentions that there's six thrones (and proceeds to list seven), that a variety of gods got transformed into other weird things long long ago, and that the basic systems that make Barsoom work are all falling apart. So the world is, naturally doomed.

Oh, and there's no way for living people to get out of the Ghostwalk.

But that's okay, because they're the PCs so presumably there's SOME means.

Anyway, some gallivanting about with crazy goddesses, and Dead PC gets a soul back or something and is alive again and they're halfway down the Ghostwalk now.

Good clean metaphysical fun. And I made most of it up on the spot. It's fun, just making up metaphysical truths.

First there is the Grey Waste, this is a plane of mist ruins that the dead have to cross prior to going to the afterlife, it can be dangerous as their are creatures that hunt the souls as they move through it. Religion offers protection, where there are churches, shrines, temples in the real world they project safty into the waste, you also have a NPC/PrC called the Grey Walkers that can help the dead find their way...be it heaven or hell...IF a player reconizes the church, faithful, been of service, or just pays these guides can do a number of things, send them back being the prime.
