Wheel of Time

I have that completist tendency too, but I was so miffed by Crossroads of Twilight that I'll be waiting for some reviews before I spend my cash on his latest endeavor.

His wife isn't editing the new one, is she?

His last book crushed any remaining enthusiasim for this series. I'll probably read it while hanging out in the cafe at borders or B&N, but I won't spend any money on it.

The only way Robert Jordan could redeem this series is to f'ing kill EVERYONE while there still only 3 books to go. I'm tired of reading about people thinking about how they might be doing something. Or people anticipating being somewhere.

Seriously.

Wow, the new book. I bet he describes some fantastic dresses in this one. Maybe some pants and elaborate courtwear. ;)

It will be interesting to see how he can wrap up all the open threads in only two books.....

James
He has publicly stated that he does not intend to wrap up the threads. He wants the world to seem like it will live on even as he expects never to return to it.

I had dropped the series without reading the last two novels, and coincidentally had just restarted them again without any knowledge of book 11 (or book 12). So the timing is pretty good for me. I'm listening to them as I commute on audiobook, and I've just started Fires of Heaven, so I still have a couple more months to go anyway before I finish book 10.

Robert Jordan is a very frustrating author. There are so many things he does right that I keep trying again despite all of the many things he does wrong. Up through book 6 I was a big fan, though. And even as my interest started to fade with book 7, and drop completely with book 8, I formerly used Raolin Darksbane as my standard online alias, after the historical character (first of the named False Dragons.) In fact, when I first registered at the earlier pre-3e release ENWorld, I think I still used that, and only later when we moved did I go with my real name.

Golly. I wonder if he'll start up a fourth age series where he promises to wrap up some of these threads?

Jordan has "expected" too many things in the past for me not to be cynical.
