Wheel of Time

I agree that the series is dragging. I'm halfway through book 10 and it seems to be glacial in its pacing. In fact, the first half of book 10 is all about events that happned elsewhere during the climax of book 9. The story hasn't even advanced a day yet.

And am I the only one who doesn't care in the slightest if Elayne keeps the throne of Camelyn? At this point, I'd be happy if Rahvin came back, if it meant ending this plotline...

Jordan was in Los Angeles last week, and he said concerning the series that he is trying to wrap it up in two more books. The intesting thing he said though is that he has always thought with every book that he would just need two more to wrap it up, but that he keeps on writting.

Well he came and went and the funny thing is that all my friends went the night before at the Borders bookstore only not to get a chance to talk to him. Meanwhile at our local friendly Kroger he was sitting there with no one to talk to . I was not that impressed with the guy except that he's made alot of money doing what we would all like to do.

The series is starting to drag considerably. What I originally liked about the series was its grand theme (ie the Wheel of Time and the Dark One versus the Creator). The problem with the more recent books is that Jordan seems to have moved away from the mythic and epic feel of the series to instead get bogged down in politics which he does not quite have the same flair for writing as other authors. Add to that the fact that the plot lines just inch forward and in some places feel rather contrived and the Wheel of Time just does not have quite the same appeal that it used to.

The other problem for me is that having read the exploits of the main characters now for 10 books they are rapidly starting to lose their appeal and in some places just become plain irritating. After reading the coma inducing Crossroads of Twilight I started to feel more sympathetic to the Dark One then any of the main characters. If I was trapped in a bloody prison and made to watch essentially the same story repeat for the rest of eternity the way Jordan is writing it at the moment I too would want to break the freakin Wheel!

Just to state: I enjoyed book 10 :D

Potential Spoilers

I would have prefered it to be twice the length that it was, 'cause the plot line for each character does creep. In terms of the actual world plot line things progressed more coherently. The piller of the one power gave a lot of intergration back to the storyline.

The characters once again felt like they were in the same world, and there was a general feel of completion to some of the storyline. Mainly the Seanchan and integrating the male and female channelers.

Typical Robert Jordan though leaving multiple cliffhangers and puzzles at the end.

If i was in the area I would have had Jordan sign something that said there would ONLY be two more books for WoT. :D

He can write all the WoT books he wants afaic. But it would be nice if he could finish the matter at hand somewhere this century.
