When am I Epic?

I have an Epic level character, and it has never worked like that for me. He is a 12th level fighter/ 2nd level Rogue with a template that makes his ECL 25. Perhaps I have just been misunderstanding the text, my DM.

How do you handle it?

Consider that the example Earth Mephit, adventuring with an otherwise all Human party, is 6 level behind everyone else.

Everyone else hits 21st and picks their first Epic feat, while the Mephit hits 15th and is refused access. Doesn't seem quite fair.

Tomorrow I will get my ELH and try and get you some page references.

Page 25 of my ELH has this to say ...

Regardless of its ECL, a monster with class levels uses the base attack bonus and base save bonus progressions of its class (rather than the progression shown on Table 1-1_ until it has 2- character levels. Begining with its 21st character level, it uses the progressions shown on Table 1-1.

Table 1-1 is the Epic Save and Attack Bonus Table. It continues ...

In any other place in this book where "charater level" is indicated, you can use effective character level instead. For example, a creature with a level adjustment of +5 who is also a 13th level fighter/3rd level blackguard is ECL 21 and eligible to select an epic feat provided he meets the prerequisites.

Point and match good sir. ;)

Hope I could help.
