When Animals Attack

wallshot

First Post
So we were missing a few guys from our game on monday night. The three of us that were there (2 PC's and a GM) decided it would be a good idea to just wait until next week to play the planed adventure (which is RSW). None of us really wanted to go home just then, so we sat around and retold war-stories and such. It was then that i told them about a post i had read about a druid who used his animal companions (the PC's) as the adventurers. You should have seen the light in their eyes...especially after i told them of the awaken spell.

So in about 20 minutes they had made two awakened apes of Legendary power (MotW), and i came up with a mission. I've never imagined orcs so terrified as i did when imagining apes swinging out of trees and bashing them into the ground.

Now that they have told the other guys in the group about the Ape attacks, the other guys wanna play also. So here is where i need you, the reader, the player, the DM, to help...How would i go about making a Dire chipmunk for one guy and an armadillo for the other?

a dire chipmunk and armadillo? start by going over to the Creature catalog forumns and look in homebrews :)

there is a dire squirrel around ... and squirrels and chipmunks are kinda close to each other.

Well, a real armadillo isn't good at offense, but my thoughts for a dire one would be: 1) Tank-like natural armor; 2) A charge attack: i.e. a charging dire armadillo can deliver a staggering slam attack; 3) Relatively weak bite and claw attacks, but let him clobber stuff with his tail. Or maybe an armadillo could be the cleric of the awakened world. He's got the armor. Let him carry a divine focus with his tail and cast spells. Why not?

ill have to run this by the player... :Dbut i like:D

thnx for the suggestion...maybe stats like 10str, 14dex, 16 con, 2int, 12wis(all animals seem to have 12 wis) and cha 8?
AC for dire would be +7 or 8 Nat? claws would do 1d3 bite, 1d4?
SA:slam would be probly 2d8? SQ: Ball-full round action to roll in ball and gain stability and +2 to AC, cant sneak or crit(no anatomy)? sound reasonable?

Digimon (or is it Pokemon) anyway either one will give lots of ideas for Dire animals

eg the Digimon 'armadillo' Digmon has a slam attack and a burrow attack (opens the ground under victims feet and they fall in) also excellent natural armour and - um I'll have to ask my son...

"There go our spells... The cleric's turtling again."

Sure. Sounds pretty good, but I'd probably drop the dex. A dire armadillo probably wouldn't be dextrous, and his heavy natural armor would almost preclude it.

funny funny:D ok, drop dex to 10 or 12, cause tho they are big, they can still move...if but slowly

wish i could think of a way to get the armadillo to "roll attack" into monsters, that would be impressive....
