When Darkness Comes

I loved Zombies!!! (except for Part 4, which was mediocre at best), and am considering getting Twilight Creations other game for their Variable Tile System (TM), "When Darkness Comes."

Looking for advice from people who own or have played this game as to whether it's worth it or not, and how it compares to, or could be integrated with, Zombies!!! Also, how are the expansion packs?

Been reading reviews online (precious few of 'em), and see that everyone agrees that the rulebook is the worst one ever written in terms of clarity (the co-author admits that she regretted leaving out examples, though this is corrected on their website as a free download). Reaction to the game (an RPG/board game hybrid like HeroQuest) is mixed. Some people say that despite an initial learning curve (thanks to a crappy rule book), the game is a solid buy and good time. Others say it is too dark and grim (Zombies!!! is a lighthearted shoot-em-up by comparison), and/or the game fails as both an RPG and a boardgame. The fact that there are so many expansion sets for it suggests it is moderately popular (there is a new "Spycraft" expansion set that I think is non-horror related). There are fan made rules on mixing Zombies!!! and When Darkness Comes into one game on the official site --- since both use the Variable Tile System, it seems like they'd be a good match if you wanted to add depth to Zombies!!!, but I've learned that the WDC map tiles are larger than Zombies, making the integration more complicated. :(
