When Players don't respect the DM's rules - Help!

The group games at the problem player's house. He kicked me out of his house, and when the option of playing somewhere else to finish up the campaign that the previous DM had been running (I started DMing before the last campaign was over), PP threw a fit and said "venue doesn't matter - it's him or me." So...that kind of forced the issue.

If your anywhere near upland, our DS group needs someone who can dish out damage. :)

Elephant, that really sucks. This has highschool drama queen written all over it. I surely hope this probelm player is in his teens as that kind of behavior is completely unacceptable from anyone who wants to call themselves an adult.

The other players have got to get a grip, I mean "him or me" over D&D character creation? Forcing some to choose friends over that is amazing immature and it boggles my mind that people can be so immature themselves to buy into it.

The only solace I can provide is I've run campaigns for decades with set limits on character classes and races and never had any problems near to what you describe. So bottom line, there are rational mature people out there who play D&D you just need to find some.

Hey guys,

Well I am another player in Elephant's game and I thought I'd give my perspective. The player is in his mid-30's by the way.

I tried to do a little calming down of everyone and got this e-mail from the player. I might help to get a sense of what his opinion is.

xxxxx,

My perception of (Elephant) is that his enjoyment stems from his control. I don't need him to open things up, I just need some dialog and flexibility. If I say I'd like bring in a new character, and announce this ahead of time (which I did in an email to everyone), I don't need a control freak saying I can't because it interferes with his overarching storyline or his fear of losing control. It's WOTC, it's playtested, get over it. I don't need him jumping down my throat for interfering with his master plan because I didn't want to play a castrated kobold.....which if I had, our dwarf would have been dead BTW.

Just my 2 cents.

Later bro,

Well the oddest thing for me is that he starts this whole thing, and then basically says we disagree I'm not talking about it.

And for what its worth he basically got the PC the GM made ,said I'm not playing this you guys can do whatever, and left. I'm afraid the other players kind of pressured him into making peace with the player. Mostly just so we could get gaming.

Anyway let me know about any changes you make in the group man. Right now I definately will consider anything.

Didn't see this earlier. The "problem player" sounds reasonable here and I can certainly see him not wanting to host a game he doesn't want to play in. Still the "him or me" thing just doesn't sound reasonable.

You are all chronologically adults. Tyring to make people choose between him or Elephant's game sounds like a true control freak to me. Maybe it's a battle of two control freaks. :)
I still say I'm stunned. If this is how someone in their 30s reacts to differences in D&D play style, I'd hate to see what is reserved for those who disagree on any issue that actually affects peoples lives.
