When Urban Wildlife Attacks...

First Post
I was at work today and the wierdest thing happened to me. I was doing a patrol of a building with a courtyard and there were two crows sitting in a tree. The tree in question is located directly in the path so I had to walk under it. As I did so, the crows began doing what crows do. they started to caw. I thought nothing of it. then As I walked out from under the tree, completely ignoring the birds, I see this flash of a shadow on the ground..... and then BAM!

The damnable beast launched itself from its perch above me and then proceeded to enter into a strafing maneuver, striking me on the top/back of my head with it's talons.

It seems It managed to get a surprise round on me and rolled a hit. Fortunately, it rolled low on damage. Though painful, it failed to draw blood. For which I am grateful. Can you imagine filling out the WCB forms on that injury?

Must have been young in the area but it could have also be a warning from Oden about the snake in the grass! They have also been know to do it to make people drop food.

Magpies here in Austria are infamous for doing that too. Sometimes they have to get the pest control guys out to deal with them.

Probably were near it's nest. They'll do that (I've seen birds divebomb our cat, who doesn't hunt).

This article talks about a recient incident where a deer ran over a child.

Crows (and other birds) do something called 'Mobbing' where they dive-bomb a potetnial preadator to drive it off. (around here you see a lot of various songbirds going after Red-Tailed Hawks).

Crows are very smart however. A nearby nest if a likely cause, but they may have an ulterior motive.

If you have a uniform, a co-worker may have antaganized them & now they want pay-back.

On a completely unrelated note, I want a trained crow that sits on my shoulder and divebombs anyone I command it to attack. Trained attack crows = awesome! :D
