There really isnt a necromancer class. Most necromancers are wizards specialising in the school of necormancy(which i think is a sub-par school personally).

Don't listen to them. Dragon Compendium Vol 1 has the true necromancer, Death Master. Great class IMHO. (Yes I'm using that word before I say it. :p)

Also there are tons of great necromancy spells and it's not no more a sub-par school than Divination is. (Yeah I REALLY want to know what you're think...:p )

From the SRD, you can be a Wizard specialized in Necromancy or a Cleric with the Death domain. Both of them will make fairly decent necromancers.

If you go to suppliments there are a couple more choices. Heroes of Horror has the Dread Necromancer base class, a spontanious arcane caster with a small spell list and a bunch of thematic class features that becomes a Lich at 20th level. The Libris Mortis has the True Necromancer PrC, a 14 level class that's basically a necromancy focused Mystic Theurge.

Which you want to use depends on what style of necromancer you want and what books your GM will allow.

I know these are 3E instead of 3.5 products, but, with the information available, upgrading shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Necromancer's Legacy--Mystic Eye Games
Encyclopedia Arcane: Necromancy--Mongoose Publishing
Secret College of Necromancy--Green Ronin Publishing

The last book actually has a 20 level necromancer class, and all three books have a decent selection of spells, feats, and other cool things.

Hope this helps.

Syk,

Yeah but I felt that was a little TOO overpowered for even a necromancer fan like me.

The feats in Mongoose's book were alright but with all the changes, hardly necessary. I can't comment on Mystic Eye.

In all technicality (and not meaning to sound like a snob either) there is a necromancer class, even if you play PHB only. It's a wizard specializing in the Necromancy sub-school of magic and it says so right there on page 57, under the side-bar "School Specilization" and under the heading "Necromancy".

A necromancy specialist is called a necromancer.

By wizards, there is also the Dread Necromancer base class in Heroes of Horror and more than a few good PrC's (including True Necromancer) in Libris Mortis.
