Where can I PAY for some decent artwork?

I was in your position three weeks ago. I posted to the freelance forum on rpg.net and had an artist lined up in no time. Last time I looked my message was still on the first page of the forum. A lot of artists hang out in that forum, posting their material for critique by the other artists there. It has a cool vibe.

The first piece of artwork that I commissioned from there is in yesterday's Tuesday's Two-Pager.

Be aware that once you say "Hey I'm looking for an artist" you will receives dozens of email from artists looking for contracts.

What if I want a big cityscape? Naturally you can't find an existing picture that does justice to my city, so I'd need one commisioned.

So who can do a giant vista?

PS

storminator, throw me an email :)

I do character commissions, and I like to think I'm not too shabby.

I don't recommend Elfwood, as... well... my impression of most Elfwood artists is a high school kid who tries to draw in anime style, likes what he/she sees, and decides to put it up for other anime high school kids to admire and post "THAT IS WICKED BEUTIFAL!!!! You are 2 good!!" over. :D

don't all gamers use the same d10 and d20 as us?

Well, see, the US d10s and d20s are still in the IMPERIAL system, whereas everyone else went to METRIC d10s and d20s a long time ago.

I also think that most of elfwood's artists are pretty bad. But it doens't take a lot of work to find one or two that are really good either.

And there are a lot of artists there, so it's not a bad place to look.

Then there's always Larry Elmore's clip art package. I **suspect** Citizen Games used it for their "1000 Faces" interior art. Another thought is to contact d20 companies whose products are similar to yours and have good art and see if they can help. I understand that not all art made for a product makes it into it.

Good luck!
