Where do orcs live? Kobolds? I was surprised to learn.

I find that Dessert Bugbears go best with ice cream, nuts and chocolate syrup.

Sort of like a hot fudge sundae.

Yep, just those 4 out of the 11. I am an idiot, just as you apparently suspected.

I think you are being a little oversensitive.

Everything else on your list I found disconnected with my assumptions as well.

But you included these four in a list of things that you said surprised you.

I was wondering if you thought dwarves, gnomes, and gnolls should also be underground or that high elves should be found in a different terrain leaving the forests to actual wood and wild elves and were surprised that it was not so.

I included all the humanoid races (except for lizardfolk, which I just now remembered) for completeness.

The four you mention are pretty much as I expected. But . . .

Why do gnolls have darkvision if they live in open plains?

It's interesting that only deep dwarves live underground. "Normal" dwarves apparently live above ground. (And again, then why have darkvision?)

Shaka, when the walls fell!

We had one guy in one of our gaming groups who kept losing his horse - getting it killed, stolen, etc. His character's name was Darmok, and his horse was always named Tenaghra - as in, Tenaghra I, Tenaghra II, etc.

:D

Because Hyena's can see very well in the dark. While that would be low light, there is no Darkvision in the real world, so it makes sense that a diernal predator could have darkvision.

They're night hunters. In their case darkvision proved to have an evolutionary advantage over lowlight vision, so it was selected for.

Something to consider: Since gnolls are supposed to be anthropomorphised spotted hyenas, that means the big, tough hyenas the heroes battle are the ladies, while the meek and skittery ones running off with the kids are the gents.
