Where is this image from?

It looks very familiar, and I'm thinking I saw it in the Monstrous Compendium back in the day. Anyone know who the artist is, and where it first appeared?

It looks like a Parkinson to me... I'm pretty sure that's his signature in the lower left part of the image. Not really sure about the context behind it though.

Indeed, that's Parkinson's "Lord Soth's Charge", a Dragonlance (and Ravenloft) villain

It was also used for one of the cardstock separator pages in one of the 2nd edition Monstrous Compendiums or appendices.

Ah, Parkinson... he was probably my favorite oldschool D&D artists. His passing makes me a little sad <sniff>

As others have mentioned, it's Keith Parkinson. I've got a couple of his prints and got the old Second Nature Dragon Tales screensaver/desktop background with a lot of his stuff in it. Greeting the Dawn is one of the best fantasy landscapes out there (and The King's Gold is just plain wicked).
