Where oh where has my little 'loth gone?

Okay, guys. Anthraxus. I know that at some point (possibly in Planescape) he was replaced as Oinodaemon. Can anyone tell me:

1) When/where/how that occurred?

2) Who took his place?

3) What Anthraxus is supposedly doing now?

4) What product this was in?

5) Anything else interesting about the whole thing.

Thanks much.

Oh, someone will come along that knows more specifically than I, but the latest dope was in a Dragon Magazine annual that detailed Anthraxus and some other uber-loths created by hag rituals...

The why he was replaced was never specifically told, I'm guessing so a GM can use it as a plot device. Supposedly the Ultraloth who replaced him "whispered a secret in his ear so terrible that he resigned the job"...

Anthraxus was deposed by the Ultroloth prince Mydianchlarus who whispered a secret of such terrible potency that the Oinoloth voluntarily stepped down from his throne and abdicated.

Since that time, Anthraxus has been wandering the lower planes, supposedly peddling himself to various evil deities, seeking to establish himself as a proxy to one of them. However, given the usual anathema of yugoloths and deities, and Anthraxus's past history, none of them have so far accepted his services and granted him any of their power.

I used this setup in my own game, with the former Oinoloth eventually tiring of his futile struggle and seeking to regain his former position. Delving into fiendish politics is fun.

This was originally in either 'Planes of Conflict' or 'Faces of Evil: The Fiends', though I'm fairly certain that it's in the former. The former also had a map of various levels of Khin-Oin; very very cool.

You'll also want to check Dragon Annual #2, the article "Pox of the Planes" which has the stats and history for Anthraxus, in 2E of course.

I'm confident that it wasn't in Planes of Conflict. I don't own Faces of Evil. :(

That map of Khin-Oin is awesome. Especially since it has an external view.

Any idea if this is available as an electronic download? (Legally, of course.) I have the Dragon CD-Rom archive, but I don't believe it has the annuals in it. :(

Sorry, but I haven't seen any of the old magazines available for legal download. It is a shame that the CR-ROM Archive is missing the Annuals for some reason.

Your best bet may be to buy it from Paizo's store, though it's somewhat pricey there.

I checked, and it's in 'Faces of Evil: The Fiends'. No stats for Mydianchlarus of course, in grand 2e Planescape tradition.

I ended up finding my copy of the Dragon annual w/ Ed Bonny's Altraloth article in it on Ebay. It details the various hag empowered unique yugoloths, anthraxus being one of their number who went his own direction and became Oinoloth after finishing the terms of his contract with the cabal of hags that originally made him what he now is.

I believe one of those sources, either Faces of Evil or the Altraloth article mention he was looking for his staff, which I guess he lost or something. Am I mis-remembering this?

a bit late, but you might be thinking of either frazurbluu or orcus. although, it sure could be anthraxus. ;)
