Where to get individual minis

Warhammer: 3025

First Post
I recently started running a game for the first time, and I'm looking for a place (or places) to find individual miniatures from Star Wars and D&D. A place that can make custom lots would be a big help (I checked out Troll & Toad already, but as I couldn't be sure that what showed up from their random lots would be suitable for my needs, I didn't purchase anything). I checked ebay, but again didn't purchase anything because I'm concerned with price (I'm not familiar with what miniatures cost, and so don't wish to overpay by mistake).

Any assistance in this matter would be invaluable. Thanks in advance!

I have purchased from Troll & Toad before and have been satisfied with my experience there. I am hesitant about Ebay as a lot of buy it now are priced above many of the online stores I frequent. Occasionally there are some good deals in the auctions.

Check out Oryan77 on these boards. He has an online store that seems to be reasonably priced, although I haven't bought anything from him... yet!

Gee, you'd think there was a new DDM set coming out or something. :)

Not sure what you mean by "custom lots." Do you mean discounts for bulk sales? I'm not aware of many places that do that; CoolStuffInc will give you a discount if you buy enough from them, but even with the discount it's often cheaper to go elsewhere.

As for costs--well, I can't speak for Star Wars, but with DDM it's a function of rarity, demand, and size. At the low end you have Medium-sized commons, which can usually be had for $0.60 to $1.20 but range up to $2.00 for hot-ticket items. Medium uncommons are apt to go from $2.00 to $5.00 or so. Medium rares go from $2.00 to stratospheric depending on popularity.

Large and Huge figs tend to cost more; it's rare to find a Large for less than $2.50.

I use Troll and Toad as my price guide since they tend to offer better deals than most. Still, it's worth cross-checking with at least one other site; for me, the cross-check site is CoolStuffInc because a) I've bought enough from them to get a discount and b) they offer 99-cent shipping, which means I don't eat a big S&H charge when I buy a handful of minis. (When I order from Troll and Toad, I do it in bulk.)

I have helped out several people in the past put together a random assortment of minis based on how much they want to spend and a general idea for what kind of figures they are interested in getting. Besides being a seller, I'm a collector & player, so I know the D&D minis extremely well. If you would like to buy from my website (link is in my sig), just email me at oryan at rpglocker.com and we can discuss the details of what kind of minis you are wanting to get. Hopefully I would have enough of what you need based on what I currently have in stock, although I'm a little low on older minis because Troll & Toad keeps buying me out of inventory. But I'm hoping to restock a lot of inventory in the next few weeks.

I sell Star Wars minis and I do have several of them in my personal collection, but I'm not as familiar with them as I am with D&D minis. But I'm always glad to help with any questions people might have.

Not a store, but an excellent resource for learning about minis prices is abprices.com. They cover Star Wars and D&D Minis (as well as many other lines) and give prices from a handful of sources on individual minis. It's a good way to see if a price from a dealer or Ebay-er is in the ballpark or a total rip-off.
