I'll point out that technically the Exodus TTRPG book is 5e D&D book from WotC technically.
I think we can pretty much guarantee that anything reasonably popular from the 2014 era is going to get a 2024 update. Though they're likely to wait longer before updating the MOTM-era material, since it was designed with forward compatibility in mind (if imperfectly so in the end).
I believe they just recently expressed interest in Universes Beyond style material for D&D, so I assume we'll see more Magic based settings. Maybe even other licenses (since that's Universes Beyond's shtick).
Good question. They have years of material to rehash first, though.
Prior to the mention in the 2024 core rules, by their own statements, I assumed the chances were zero ("Doomspace" being as close as they were willing to get it). Now it actually seems possible, though I assume it's going to be very different from the earlier incarnations (even the 4e version).
Is there a good reason to? It seems to have worked pretty well for them.
There should be, but I suspect those plans were abandoned after Winninger left.
Dark Sun sees plausible, and good callout on the World Tree: they spent some time building that up in the PHB and DMG as a transitive plane. Here's my predictions for 2026:
Curse of Strahd 10th Anniversary Edition.
Dark Sun.
Adventure Anthology: World Tree themed.
Feywild Setting/Beastiary, or an Undead Beastiary.
Something out of Left Field
"Everything" splatbook
They do namecheck Gamma World in the Campaigns chapter of the DMG, as a type of Campaign theme.Where to next? GAMMA WORLD.
YES! Gamma World was awesome.Where to next? GAMMA WORLD.
Hey, it worked for Spelljammer, Dragonlance, Planescape, AND Greyhawk.Heh. I suppose if people predict Dark Sun every single year, they well be right someday.
I don't think it will happen, but, hey, it might.
But, considering they JUST released the updated rules, I don't think they're going to go too far into the weeds and do a big release that uses virtually none of the new books.
I'm almost certain that if they update Dark Sun to 5E it will be rewritten to allow the core PHB species, possibly with a sidebar about optionally limiting it to the classic Dark Sun ancestries. But, considering they JUST released the updated rules, I don't think they're going to go too far into the weeds and do a big release that uses virtually none of the new books.
