I always take a good charisma, but constitution is usually where my second best stat goes. You simply cannot do without a high con, no matter what your class.

Which is why dwarves are the best race and elves are the worst.

While it may not always be my highest any character I create no matter what the class always has a high Constitution. Constitution equals Hit Points and you can never have too many Hit Points.

Easy: you can't live without Constitution, it says so in the rules. More to the point, depending on the class, the highest score might be anything else, but everyone can use a high Constitution.

Dammit!! I was just going to say that... :p

INT uselly gets the best score, when i play a wizard, which is my favored class. it gets the second best score, when i play anything else, which is unlikely.

Varies wildly by the type of character I am playing.

My two most common character types (I don't get the play that often, though) are the Very Wacky Wizard or Sorcerer (thus Int or Cha with Con to back up) and the Total Tank Fighter (big Str with Con to back up)

So I guess, in the aggregate, you can say Con is my most important stat, but I have also played Consumptive Idiots Out For Adventure ;)

I don't play enough to know for sure, and I can live without itt but I like Dex high characters, but also Int. It was tight but I went with dex.

Most recent character: High int, dex, and con; low wis.
Previous character: High wis, int, and cha; low str and dex
Previous character: High dex, decent all around; low str

No stat is essential. I like to mix it up.

Whenever I make a character, I find there is one ability score that has to be high. That is INT. I don't know what it is, but I have extreme difficulties playing a stupid character.

I have had a lot of fun roleplaying with a monster character that has very low INT. It is good for some laughs and it is challenging for me to turn off that common sense/thought processing part of my brain and have my character act accordingly. (He does have a high Str/Con and a natural regenerating ability that helps keep him alive in the most dire of circumstances.)

To answer the original question, Constitution has to be the one. No matter what character is generated, more hit points never hurts.
