Y'know, the bard in my WLD game absolutely rocks. Between her two buff songs, the front line fighters zoom up to +7 to hit and damage by the second round and everyone else is at +4. Combined with any group that deals in larger numbers such as a group with animal companions, summoned monsters or whatever, bards are extremely useful.

Rogue.
They're one trick ponies because their main abilities come up infrequently.
I can count the number of traps I've faced in the last 10 sessions I've been in on 2 hands, and the ones that were significantly threatening on 1.
Sneak attack requires a lot of babysitting. Cast a mid level spell on them, help them flank, specially craft Strike items so that when they face one of the half million creatures immune to sneak attacks they aren't worthless and still realize that when you face a creature with no end runs around sneak attack immunity almost any other class would be far and away superior.
Its a bad thing to realize that when you are low level and hacking through undead, plant and elemental baddies that you wish the rogue was a WARRIOR!
The thing is, the bard is always contributing but the Rogue can get into a situation where it is almost impossible for him to contribute.

Using the Bo9S, you can easily get flanking with Island of Blades Stance. And your rogues should try WMD sometime--the spellcasters should share their scrolls with the rogue.

And core only then what?
The Bard put an Improved Invisibilty on the Fighter and Inspired Courage before the Shambling Mound battle, then during the battle he cast Haste on the entire party...
And the rogue sat there twiddling his thumbs, hitting one of the Shambling Mounds for 1d6+3 damage.
Everyone says that bards suffer in core only, and it is true. But the rogue really suffers.
