I'm assuming in the example that the Bard was replacing the Rogue in the first example.
The bard gives +5 to attack, +2 to damage, 30 feet of movement, situational extra attacks, a +2 morale save bonus, a 50 percent miss chance to the frontline fighter, and a +1 Reflex save bonus to the whole party.
And the rogue does squadoosh compared to that.

Bards are very useful as party support. They become stronger as your party works together as a team. I also find Bard's (with the Complete series) to be the best gish combined with Sublime Chord.

My monk never has trouble hitting. That's because I use my mobility as a tactical advantage to get into flank positions, which also aids the fighters. And I can move in against more dangerous targets like spellcasters easily.

If I were forced to choose a class from the list it would be paladin.

WAY nastier...

Make heavy use of poison. Make Poison Save or Die.

Squash adventurers with 10-ton blocks of stone dropped from a height.

Agreed.

Most are going for the Monk and Bard however I could also say that Paladin is the most useless depending on the DM because of his code or that the Wizard and/or Sorcerer qualifies for the title through Most Redundant.

nah, it seems he is angry that he can't use Sneak attack all the time. That's more a GM issue than a Rogue issue though.

Personally, having 8+ skill points is the most awesome feature of the rogue, with the class skill list to pick the best skills out there.
 

It hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll go ahead and say it. I really love bard's for their ability to pull information out of nowhere. Whether it leads to adventures, quests,or furthers the plot - it matters not. It's so darned handy, it's like being given a small chapter from the writtens to read, and get your bearings.

However, I'm assuming not everyone plays story/plot intensive games, in which case that ability might not be as useful (or even the DM doesn't quite know how to utilize it).

Bardic knowledge - hurray!

Oh, and I voted that no class is useless - because I honestly believe that if you have a talented player behind it, it's never useless.

In regards to the druid comments, I have a druid buddy, who's never played a druid before, level 8 now, and all he does is sit back and shoot things with his bow...

I answered druid; there's no need for a base class for clerics of nature gods. I didn't interpret the question as being the most underpowered, so I didn't answer it that way.

Even a combat-focused dungeon crawl, the bard's knowledge can be very useful. All Knowledge skills as class skills, 6 skill points per level, and often a good Int? While everybody else is saying "What the heck is that?" the bard is there to shout out "Ochre Jelly! Fire, cold, blunt weapons!"
By the RAW, "in general" it's a DC 11 check to identify a 1-HD monster on sight, therefore not "common knowledge" and untrained Knowledge checks won't suffice.
Depending on the DM, Bardic Knowledge might suffice at a DC +5 or +10 (things like vampire vulnerabilities are part of our storytelling lore, after tall).
