Which d20 Superhero System?

shadow

First Post
I've recently gotten into the mood for some superhero action. I've seen a variety of d20 superhero systems recently such as Mutants and Masterminds and EnWorld's own Four Color to Fantasy I'm looking for the d20 superhero system that's right for me and my group. First and foremost I'm looking for a system diverse enough to allow me to create nearly any superhero archetype and create heroes with a wide range of powers. Second of all I would like a system that can handle both the traditional four-colored ethos as well as the "darker" tone found in many recent comics. And third of all, I want a system that emulates the traditional comic book feel where heroes can take on scores of lesser thugs with little problem. Which superhero system would you recommend?

Moved to d20 Systems.

Mutants and Masterminds is definitely my recommendation. It's teh only game that replaced the old Marvel Superheroes game as "equally fun." It's customizable to any hero type (I offered proof at a con by designing one person's character totally from their description of the hero's powers, and it worked pretty well).

Other systems include d20 Silver Age Sentinels, and d20 BESM (the anime game), but M&M is cream of the crop, award-winning, and all that. :)

Mutants and Masterminds certainly is one of the best out there. I also recommend Silver Age Sentinels. It hangs up a little on the d20 conversion from Tri-stat but it still works quite well. Both the March and June/July, 2003 issues of d20Zine! have articles that discuss these and other systems.

I'd recommend M&M or Four-Color to Fantasy; FCtF is good if you want to run a non-traditional game; I use it for my anime-esque high fantasy game.

I have to toss in a recommendation for Blood and Vigilance.
It keeps that all important balance without sacrificing the fun. It's a great game.

I have Silverage Sentinels and it does a decent enough job. I do not have Mutant's and Masterminds so I cannot compare. Sentinels though can handle both dark or ultra heroic. The powers system allows for just about any type of superhero, from werewolves to superman.

Just got M&M for Christmas, and am loving what I see so far, although I haven't looked at enough of the other systems to really help.

I do appreciate the polite and helpful discussion a bunch, though.
