Which figures do you use?

Looking on the old links I've saved, the best painted figures I've seen come from DwarvenForge (nice selection too) and Em-4 Miniatures, sold in the US by Crystal Caste. Both look fabulous, althogh I'm curious if I'm missing out on any other (painted) fantasy figures that are as well produced?

I use Dwarven Forge for accessories and reaper for figs. I then usually con one of my players into painting them for bonus xp's. ;)

I use a bunch of TSR figs created back in 1st edition days. I bought them as a kid, tried painting a few, and stopped. However, I've found that now I have far more patience and coordination for painting. And, I have lots and lots of these old things...

I have a bunch of Ral Partha stuff and I bought the majority of the WotC miniatures that came out.

I use the old Hero's Quest (by Milton Bradley) miniatures for fodder. I actually painted all of the undead using nothing but the inkwash technique and I'm pleased with the result for all they're worth.

I'm definitely a novice-intermediate painter but here's a link of figures that I and my players are currently using:

I really would like to update that page.... that something to do the next weekend I have off.

I painted a bunch of Ral Partha miniatures when I was younger and I became displeased with them, so I nuked them. Brake fluid is an amazing paint solvent if you want to strip miniatures. Use and old toothbrush to get into the hard to reach areas. So the vast majority of my miniatures are no longer painted.

If you want miniatures for cannon fodder, I highly recommend doing a search for Hero's Quest on Ebay. The figures are decently detailed, unpainted, plastic. You'll get roughly 30minis (half are green goblinoids, half are ivory undead, 4 red heroes, 4 grey armored guys, 1 grey lich). The cardboard furniture that came with Hero's Quest is great to use also. You'll get all this for roughly $15.

Plus, Hero Quest makes one hell of a drinking game for those nights when d&d sounds like too much effort.

I use mostly Reaper Dark Heaven stuff; they easily have the most variety for PC figures.

I do also have a bunch of GW Night Goblins and other misc-badguys as well. (Theres a pic of my GW Ogre buried far far down in the Art Forum). Theres nothing like GW box-sets for filling out bulk monsters.

I grabbed some Chainmail for exotic monsters like Owlbears and Otyughs.

Most of my Orcs are Harlequin, which I dont see much of these days.

Right now I am painting two snake-men for use in a popular module series that features such creatures. The figs are from Reaper (as usual), and they come two to a pack. Delicious.

I'm curious if I'm missing out on any other (painted) fantasy figures that are as well produced?

A company called Alternative Armies produces figures that you can buy pre-painted (though I must admit to not being a great fan of pre-painted miniatures myself)

They are a UK company (and so shipping to the US is probably gonna be expensive) - but they do have quite a range.

Here's a link to their fantasy section:

I have the set of 5 em-4 prepainted Oriental Blades, we use 2 of them as PC figs. They look fabulous and are fantastic value, especially with the 5 free colour-coded gem d20s you get, 1 per fig! They work out cheaper than many _unpainted_ minis, even ignoring the free dice!

A second set should be out by the end of July BTW, according to their website.

I personally have 99% Reaper. They are my favorite fantasy figs.

Our gaming basement is hosted by a fella with thousands of old miniatures of all brands-- RP, Grenadier, historical miniatures, etc. We are rarely wanting for miniatures.

The irony of it all is that since the Counter Collection I & II came out, we only use 3d miniatures for the PCs. All the monsters are counters these days.

Mageknight. Prepainted and Cheap as dirt. Cut them off their bases and glue them to a smaller base, and you're all set to go with the standard grid.
