Which is the Best WOTC Setting to Purchase?

Among the 2 choices, FR is my favorite.

But... if I had to start a new collection now, I would probably choose Eberron or possibly another 3rd party environment. Lets face it; the sheer volume of material for the FR is immense and I would not want to go down that road again spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get my hands on all that material spanning a few editions of the game itself. Eberron on the other hand, has far fewer books so far, and would thus be much easier on the pocketbook, and easier to keep up with the newer books as they come out in the future.

In the end. I would not start a FR crack habit now. Just too costly.

Eberron, hands down. The support for it from Wizards is amazing! My personal favourite is the Sharn Inquisitive column on the website. I like to print them out and give them to my PCs.

Of the two you listed, I'd go with Eberron.

Now, if you've expanded your horizons a bit, check out "Wilderlands of High Fantasy" or "Iron Kingdoms". I think you will be happily surprised.

I'd add in a vote for Eberron myself. I just picked it up and it is a very nice change of pace. Yeah, it's got all the D&D stuff in it and then some, but changed around a bit to make it seem fresh, and it makes more sense than some of the other settings, as others have pointed out.

FR does have the familiarity to it, thanks to its longer run and much more exposure on multiple fronts (CRPGs, novels, etc.). However, it's gotten a bit overcrowded over the years, and it's harder for PCs to leave their mark in it. FR has basically settled in its years.
